Alice in wonderland syndrome

Has anyone on here experienced Alice in Wonderland syndrome with their children? My 6 year old has a fever and wakes up screaming saying everything looks weird, things bigger than normal or closer to her. Once she's fully awake and calpol kicks in it stops

You’ve just diagnosed something I used to experience as a child….i had no idea this had a name! I used to experience the depth and size perception issues late at night if I was ill or overtired….this was around the time I started getting migraines. Sorry no advice as mine resolved by itself after a few years and not sure if related but once I got my migraines under control I stopped having these episodes. They used to scare me so much I was afraid to tell anyone and couldn’t describe them properly anyway.

@Samantha glad I've helped you understand what it is, thank you for your help

My 8 year old gets this when she has a temperature. She says that everything looks like it's further away than it really is. She also gets auditory hallucinations sometimes when she's sick as well. It's so odd, but her dad says he used to get the same when he was younger & he grew out of it.

@Kim how do you help her through it? After being shouted at 3am, I just brought her in my bed and dad slept in hers, I didn't know what else to do, just held her all night

@Claire I stay with her until she falls back asleep. Normally Calpol seems to sort it out thankfully. If she's really unsettled, I'll sleep in her bed with her. There's not really much you can do, except for try to bring their temperature down 😓

@Kim thank you, thats helpful
