How much to pay for in-home daycare at your house
I’m hoping to start a new job soon that is fully remote. I currently stay at home with my 1 1/2 year old and have since she was born. I know how much she engages with me when I’m around, how hard it is for me to focus/how I get when I’m in work-mode, and how attached she is to me when I’m around. Continuing to care for her during the day while working full-time is just not really an option, especially since I may have to be on the phone a lot for the job.
I’ve been looking for daycare, but everything has a waitlist or is astronomically expensive.
I have a family friend that doesn’t work/is retired but still young and active enough to keep up with my little one. I’m thinking about asking her if she would consider watching my daughter during the day for me while I work, but for a few reasons, I’m planning to ask her if she could do this in my home, rather than in her own. I would basically be holed up in my office upstairs while I work.
My question for everyone on here is, how much would you pay someone to do this per week?
She lives about 10 minutes from me, and obviously I would provide meals/snacks and all essentials for my child. Also, for reference, it would essentially be her being here to take care of her from 8:30am until about 1:30pm when she would put her down for her nap, and basically just hanging out and being on standby until 3:30/4pm in case she wakes up before my husband gets home from his full time job.
*I also want to add that this would be temporary until she can get into a daycare facility.
Sounds like you’re looking for a nanny. In the area people charge $14-$18 an hour for casual care or if they’re a family friend or 16-22 for a career nanny for one child. I’d ask her what she charges
