Silent reflux

I suspect my baby has silent reflux. When I put him down (even after being burped) he seems gagging a lot, and then swallowing. He gets hiccups at least 2 times per day. He’s 6 weeks old, hypoallergenic formula fed, as my supply wasn’t enough and at that time I gave up. Hypoallergenic because he was so colicky that I couldn’t settle him at all and GP prescribed this formula, now he’s another baby, but I think he got silent reflux. Any advice? What can help? Thank you.

Look up elevated side lying bottle feeding I found that really helps My first born had it till about 8-9 months ( it got a lot better after 3-4 months) I tried everything with her. different formulas, thickeners, slow paced feeding, keeping up right all the time, cocoonababy nest… but it was difficult as she suffered from lactose intolerance/ allergies and colic as well so some things made her other issues worse and vice versa. The only actual cure in my experience is time, it’s horrible and so stressful but it will pass with time! Hang in there xx

She also had hiccups constantly, even in the womb 🤣😅 safe to say I was happy when I didn’t feel any hiccups pregnant with my second. Also if you use infacol, try stopping or reducing use as it can make reflux worse ❤️

I suspect my baby may have this too he’s breastfeeding exclusively so I have no clue what I could try

@Anika please tell more about Infacol! I thought it's suppose to help?

@Alisa because infacol helps baby bring up wind it can cause some babies to bring milk back up with it, and also the orange flavour apparently is acidic. My daughter definitely had worse symptoms when having a full dose of infacol but she also suffered from very bad trapped wind so I found just using a small amount was the sweet spot for her x

@Jenna there are breast feeding positions that can help, such as the one where baby sits on your lap facing you in line with your body and then you lie/sit back ( not sure what it’s called sorry!) have a look on google x

@Anika yeah I’ve tried this the last couple days after learning about it in my local breastfeeding group it definitely helps a lot I just can’t always get comfortable in that position it’s hard to get it right with larger boobs 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

@Jenna yeah you feel like baby is suffocating 😅😱 just keep trying, I liked to wear my baby as much as possible after feeding too so she was kept in an upright position which helps, I also had a snuz pod for sleep which can tilt so she wasn’t lying completely flat. Gravity is your best friend basically x

@Anika just ordered a baby wrap I have a carrier but it’s too bulky for around the house hopefully some nice baby wearing before bedtime and throughout the day will help 💞 thank you xx

@Jenna you’re doing everything right then hunny, don’t worry it will go away with time x

Go back to the GP and they'll prescribe gaviscon for the reflux. My baby is currently on that and hypoallergenic formula too x

My 8 week old suffers with silent reflux and our GP prescribed us with a powder like medicine that you add to their bottles. Its made by Cow & Gate and its called Carobel. It makes the mill thicker so then they can't bring it up the same, stopping the gagging and choking. Ask your GP about it and see if its something they can prescribe you x
