He'd do all of this and more quite comfortably without seeking permission first. He tends to start things, but he can't concentrate on anything long enough to finish what he's started. He did have a developmental delay, but I don't know if there's a correlation between delays and adhd. They're two totally different things. Check with your child's paediatrician. I don't know what country you're in, but here in Australia, the paediatrician tends not to diagnose things like adhd or add until the child is around 5 years of age. It's hard to know but if what I'm describing resonates with your experiences, then perhaps your little one has add or adhd. Your family paediatrician and g.p. know best what to look for. Good luck!!!
We are from Missouri! So im guessing probably the same with waiting until they are a bit older! He does love to move all the time! He will sit and watch tv from time to time but he will fidget or hum while he is doing this. He loves to stomp and jump all the time he loves to pretend to fall off stuff as well. He will Be 3 this month but he says probably 250+ words and can count and says his abcs and recognizes them. He says a couple sentences but he talks alot just sometimes I cant make out what he says so im not sure if he is delayed or if he is on track. He likes to throw things too but if I ask him to stop he will and will pick them up and put them back. Potty training has been a struggle because he doesnt want to sit still long enough
@Anna he also stims from time to time
Tell me about it re potty training. I had a nightmarish time training my son. This may seem cruel to some, but I ended up getting a bucket, and I put a comfy abc Sesame Street toilet seat on top of the bucket, and I sat him on that infront of the t.v. for hours at a time. & you know what, I successfully potty trained him so I have no regrets!! It's funny you said that he likes to pretend he's falling over because my son did that. In fact, at 8, he still does it - just a lot less. I don't know what that's about, actually. I don't want to scare you because every child is different but my boy has adhd, dyslexia, & he's Autistic level 2. He attends a mainstream school and although he hates reading, he is slowly picking it up. He can write and knows the alphabet but sometimes he writes letters backwards or upside down. Generally it's the letters that look similar that he has trouble with. For example b,p,d, they are all similar so he can mix them up or write them ba k to front but he's still preserving
I dont think he has autism but i dont know that for sure but when i look up the differences between adhd and autism he fits mostly in the adhd but i know both share alot of the same symptoms. He is very communicative though and will try to talk to just about anyone just working on clear sentences! He has peed a couple times but no poop yet! My little brother used to do the falling thing alot he is 16 now and doesnt do it anymore but he was never diagnosed with anything but i think he could have adhd but my mom never got him tested
Your brother can still get tested. It's never too late, and it's not like it's just a childhood illness. In most cases, it's for life. I hope that your sob doesn't have autism. If he's really socusk around kiddos his age, then great. Because Autistic childop ⁿ⁹⁹⁹⁸ren find it really hard to make eye contact and/or socialise with age appropriate friends. . He's fine with adults. He also talks a lot!!!
@Anna yes he does good with kids his age and he makes eye contact with us. He plays with his little brother really well he will also get his drink and take it to him or will try to feed him lol
That's wonderful! He doesn't sound as though he would be Autistic but I am no doctor. He sounds delightful
Mine was pretty much all of the below: 1. Hyperactivity Constantly in motion — rarely sits still even for quiet activities like reading, eating or watching TV. Climbing on things excessively, running around aimlessly. Appears to be “driven by a motor” — high energy that doesn't seem to wind down. Talks excessively or makes lots of noise, even when playing alone and is loud. 2. Impulsivity Difficulty waiting their turn (e.g., in games or group activities). Interrupts conversations or activities. Acts without thinking — darting into the road, grabbing things off shelves, etc. Hits or bites impulsively during frustration or excitement. — can or calming strategy ideas for
3. Inattention Doesn’t always seem to listen when spoken to directly. Frequently switches from one activity to another without finishing any. Struggles to follow basic age appropriate instructions Easily distracted, even by minor noises or sights. Other Signs Poor sleep — difficulty falling or staying asleep, wakes early and struggles to wind down. She used to wake up up to 25x per night! Frequent emotional outbursts — intense meltdowns that are difficult to soothe. Difficulty engaging in independent play — may require constant interaction. Sensory sensitivities — sometimes things are too noisy for her. Like the handdryer in the bathroom or the shower. But she is then OK with the hairdryer or loud music Speach delay Hope this helps.
Wow @Ghitta! What a detailed outline of the symptoms!! I think a lot of us Mummas can relate!! That's exactly how my son is!! He is diagnosed already as he is 8, but it's great when people such as yourself can articulate so clearly what the symptoms are and what a mum needs to look out for!! Thank you because you could help a lot of people with your clear, well written posts!! I love ❤️ it!! 😃 and wishing you a Happy and Safe Easter 🐣!!! Anna
@Anna pleasure and thank you for the compliment. I've had to teach myself alot but realise so many people just don't know. Even teachers! Happy Easter to you too!!
I knew because my little one was constantly on the go, and it seemed to me from my viewpoint as though he was on fast forward. So constantly on the move but twice or even more actions than other children his age. He had/has an inability to sit still. Even at meal times, he'd take a bite and then get up and move about, being over-active in general. I know kids are busy bees, but my kiddo was so active as though he was on steroids. Lol!! Bless him. He's a great son, and I wouldn't change a thing but moving about constantly, even on the couch watching t.v. he would constantly wriggle about, kicking me, leaning on me, etc. Not in a mean or melicous way of course. He simply can't help it. Also, he can't focus on any one thing for more than 5 to 10 minutes. He would constantly be flip-flopping from one activity to another. When we would visit the paediatrician, he would use the remote to put the mechanical patients bed up, or down, or into various positions. Then he'd move about touching everything.
