TW baby choking on Calpol!

Does anyone else have this issue where baby is choking on Calpol almost every time? I know on this vid I was quite quick to put his dummy in but that's not the issue as he does it during the day when he doesn't have a dummy. Almost every time it will block his airway, I now give him the smallest amount at a time and wait for him to swallow it and it's still happening!! I know I seem super calm but inside I'm panicking, why is this happening? Is it irritating his throat maybe? I know I've had some medicines that take my breath away, could this be what's happening here? He has other medications by syringe and it never happens with the others!

Sorry I don't have much advice except I would speak to a GP or HV about this. Im sorry this is happening, it must be so scary! You reacted so well ❤️

You handled that so well! Well done!! ❤️ Have you tried another brand / own brand of paracetamol instead? X

Does he suffer with reflux? Silent reflux? Calpol makes my little girls awful and she then becomes like this and it’s the acid coming back up hitting her throat. I now do boots own version, 6years + so the dose is smaller - half (I am a paeds nurse) so less I’ve got to get in her and seems to work better 🙂 x

@Jess I haven't! Il grab some on my way out today I didn't even think about there being other brands that exist 😅 thank you ❤️

@Georgia he used to, he's been on different meds for reflux up until about a month ago he was weaned off and hasn't had it since x

@Jen could be a little bit of silent reflux x

I didn’t realise Calpol was a brand name for months with our first! My children tend to like the boots own brand stuff and it’s cheaper x

If you've started weaning, does it happen with food or is it Calpol specific?! If it's with food definitely consult a gp, if it's Calpol specific try another brand or you can get little contraptions that are like bottle teats you can put the Calpol through to help them suck and swallow.

@Amy only Calpol no problem with food, I didn't realise Calpol was a brand and there's other paracetamols out there 😅
