Thank you! We started doing that today as well. Fingers crossed but I will say my husband and I both have headaches from the tantrums that followed.
My daughter started doing the same and was also hitting us. We re directed and explained that it hurts over and over but nothing worked. Doc told us that sometimes a vitamin deficiency can also make children more violent and prone to tantrums. Especially vitamin d. I got her a multivitamin and she hasn’t hit us during a tantrum in 2 weeks. That might not be the issue at all but it couldn’t hurt to try.
Very interesting! Never would have guessed that, thank you.
Natural consequences. "We don't hit mom, if you hit me again I will take the toy away until you're ready to be gentle" or simply don't react at all. If you don't give them attention for an action they won't do it after awhile. Just remember it's normal and it will pass as long as you're consistent. The book Hunt Gather Parent is amazing for this.
I might try putting the toys he’s throwing away and tell him that they’re being taken away because he’s not being gentle.
