Topping up with formula

Hello everyone. My LO is almost 4 months. I am exclusively breastfeeding, and my husband occasionally feeds our baby my frozen pumped milk. I typically pump 50-70 ml per breast. She is gaining weight well, approximately 30–35 g daily. She feeds every 1.5–2 hours, including at night, and I am considering supplementing with formula before bed to encourage longer sleep periods. What are your thoughts? Has anyone else tried this?

Hi!! I breastfeed however before bed I give my little girl breastmilk and 90ml formula and I find she sleeps longer as to when I only breastfeed her she wakes up at least every 2/2.5 hours during the night. With formula she’ll do a 5 hour stretch.

Hi, we formula feed our little boy (15 weeks) at night to get longer stretches of sleep. He has a bottle when we go to bed (120-150mls) then is usually up between 2and 3, then again between 6 and 7. I pump through the night to maintain supply/ provide a bottle feed

We fed my first son formula starting around 4 months because i was an under producer and he still woke every three hours at night. Some babies just won’t sleep.

My little on is breastfed and has 1 bottle of expressed milk each night and I’ve found he sleeps much better and longer when he has the bottle of breast milk rather than on the boob before bed xx

@Katie how old is your little one and how many ounces are you giving them before bed?

So, I gave her that 120ml formula before bed, then some breast milk. She woke up after two hours, then every hour and a half. Gonna try it again today; hoping for a better night tonight.
