Worried about speech regression

Hi, I’m wondering if it’s normal for a 2-year-old to regress in skills he had already developed, such as his speech. A few weeks ago, he was progressing really well, speaking in 5–6 word sentences with some help from us. Suddenly, this week, he’s not using such long sentences, and when he’s excited to say something, he repeats the first word several times. For example, if he wants to say "people are rowing in a boat," he might repeat "people" three or four times before continuing with the sentence. 🥺 I’m a bit worried about it. When he’s not excited, his speech seems fine. For context, we’re teaching him two languages at the same time. He sometimes mixes words from both languages in a single sentence (but it still makes sense). We're also trying not to interrupt or correct him while he’s speaking. I’m hoping this is just a small setback. On top of that, he’s also going through a sleep regression - waking up two or three times a night and wanting to start the day at 4:50 a.m.

My daughter is similar. She has been talking in sentences for about 6 months, but recently, it's like she forgets things she used to be able to say. Then she will come out with something smart, and I stop worrying so much. I don't know if it is normal to regress a bit, but it sounds similar. I was thinking maybe they are learning so many new things that it gets confusing. We are also going through a rough sleep patch as well as many more tantrums and hitting again!

Thanks for sharing @Stella. I hope also that small regressions are normal 🤞🏻 I have no other worry other than this stuttering when he is very excited and wants to say something. Hopefully it is due to the sleep regression and that will pass soon, because I am already very tired 😩

Same. My boy is 2 years old. Some days he’s have a brain spurge and he’ll say tones of new sentences then some weeks he’ll act like it’s all forgotten and go back to basics! 😂🫠 i think it’s just part of development.
