does anyone else have extreme over the top hunger while breastfeeding? like my stomach is literally a bottomless pit. i never had a huge appetite before i was pregnant, but during pregnancy i had a huge appetite, and now that i breastfeed it’s stayed the same if not bigger. i’m 6 months postpartum, exclusively BF, and im still 20-25 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight so eating as much as i do makes me feel guilty and im insecure about my weight. but im literally so hungry i dont think i could eat in a caloric deficit even if i tried. like for example i literally just ate a 15 inch sandwhich for lunch that weighed around 2 lbs as well as a small bag of chips and i dont even feel overly stuffed. i looked it up and it was over 1600 calories and now im just insecure🫠i guess im looking to see if anyone relates?

Learn more about our guidelines.Yes! We burn 300-600 calories per day just by breastfeeding. You need to be consuming at least this many additional calories on top of your normal requirement. I snack at every breastfeeding session on top of my meals. As a Dietitian, I'd never recommend someone to eat in a caloric deficit while breastfeeding. Remember you are doing a lot for baby right now and as hard as it is, focus on weight can come later. The best thing right now is to just be mindful you are consuming nutrient-dense foods, exercising to your comfort level and exercising to make you feel good (not to lose weight), and staying hydrated.🤍
