Primary School Place Appeal

Does anyone have any success stories or advice for appealing a primary school offer? So my daughter is at a school nursery, this school was obviously our 1st preference but she hasn't been offered a place here. This school isn't our catchment school so I always knew there was a chance she wouldn't get in but from discussing my worries with the school when enrolling her in the nursery they said not to worry as their catchment area is small and they takes loads of children from out of catchment. I put our catchment school as 2nd preference which is the on we have been offered a place at but the school isn't great and I really don't want her to go here. I didn't really look at any other schools at the time as I was certain she would get a place at our chosen school which I'm really annoyed at myself about. My daughter has really struggled with potty training since we started a year and a half ago due to constipation and I'm really worried the disruption of moving to an unfamiliar school will set her back further. Would this make a difference if I appeal due to this reason? I know they can't create places but bumping her up the waitlist may give us a slight chance if someone drops out? Could I also be put on waitlists for other schools i didn't put down as a preference? Thanks if you made it this far, any advice is appreciated 🙂

No advice but commenting because I would like to know the answer to this. I want my child in a school that isn't in the catchment as my catchment school is not good at all- I read ofsted reports etc 😢 hope you get the answers you need though xx

Not personally, but I was listening to a section on Jeremy Vine last week and they basically said once the decisions are made its very unlikely they go back on them. Even when siblings are separated they won't change their minds.

Same story happen for me. Second accept us not first. Even we are half mile far from school they reduce it to 0.4 du to high subscribe. Anyway I had few research and my advice would be that. All parents have difficulties with kids using the bathroom in preschool; this cannot really be used as a strong excuse unless the school you prefer specifically says they will help clean up the children — which is unlikely. My suggestion is this: look at the curriculum of both schools. See what differences there are, and point out exactly the program your preferred school offers that the other school does not. You can say, “I want my child to have this specific program, which unfortunately the second school does not offer.” This could be a reason for your appeal.

Hope that helps. This was an advice I get from admission. Also put your child name on waiting list as well. Don’t forget to accept the second choice because if you don’t accept it and your they don’t accept your appeal council decide your child school.
