following to see what people say as I'm curious too

I think it depends what you're eligible for. We've got tax free but we're not entitled to a single penny from UC regardless of childcare

@Bethan I applied it said I’m eligible for tax free but I already receive UC (not for childcare costs tho, yet as I haven’t applied)

@Bethan how does tax free work? Does the gov contribute to childcare costs or is it down to the parent to pay all of it?

Im on uc pays up to 85% but tax free For every £8 you pay into this account, the government will pay in £2 to use to pay your provider. Depends on what you earn it works out i would of been worse off on tax free credit

Tax free childcare is essentially like a bank account on the gov website. You set it up with the details of the childcare. You add the amount of invoice and within about 24hrs the gov top up 20% of that amount into your account. You set up a payment like a standing order to the childcare facility from that account.

@Miranda sounds like UC is better from what I’ve been reading on the GOV web. For your childcare do you get the full 85% or less and how do they decide how much they’re willing to pay up to?

@Miranda also sorry, when you got UC did they pay upfront costs first and then you continued or did you pay the first amount and they reimbursed?

Yeah you pay them then upload it with proof like bank statement and invoice then they add it on to your next payment
