I’m getting the arm implant after I give birth

I’m also in the same boat of being scared of IUDs. I’ve heard so many horror stories, so I have chosen to do the mini pill until I’m done breastfeeding. Then I will go back on the NuvaRing bc its my favorite form from prior to having children. It just doesn’t work well with breastfeeding, it can severely drop your supply.

@Tina the implant sounds amazing but I'm not sure if it will make my anxiety worse or not

I used the implant before getting pregnant. Was on it for a year and bled the entire time. But I heard it’s amazing for some people!

@Samantha I understand I think the only reason I feel comfortable with it honestly is bc I had it previously

@Chylee oh wow I never bled with mine

Yeah, it was really weird! Bc I was on the depo shot prior, but decided to switch to the implant bc it’s the same hormone but has less dangerous side effects. But my body did not like it. Then I went back on depo for a little bit. Then started the Nuvaring & loved it. I used it all the way until we TTC. Then mini pill while breastfeeding. Pregnant now lol Will go back on mini pill then back on Nuvaring after breastfeeding!

Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right one for you! I personally have the same fear of the iud (it’s supposed to be rare but so is ruptured ectopic pregnancies and I had one of those too) I personally have tried the nuva ring and had to stop for my mental health (my ob told me some times it lets the cells start to grow and you have an early miscarriage instead of it preventing pregnancy and I had 3 miscarriages while on it in a 6 month span) and I’ve tried the depo shot I struggle with weight and it made it a lot harder to lose weight. Do your research talk to your doctor you can always try a different one if one isn’t working for you!!

I work in imaging and I chose the Mirena IUD! It is super soft and flexible and I hardly ever see issues with it, personally. I see more malposition or imbedding with copper IUD. I also wouldn’t choose arm implant for myself because I often have to find it for removal and it’s hardly ever where it was placed or in process of rejection. But all with a grain of salt, I only see patients who are experiencing problems and need imaging done. I just have noticed that most mirena IUD are not causing the patients symptoms whereas copper IUD or Nexplanon are often the cause of issues. I can’t take the pill or NuvaRing, so my options were cervical cap (lol, 70% reliable) or IUD. I for sure was anxious because I felt forced into getting an IUD but it was amazing for me.

I used Slynd, a progestin-only pill, compatible with breastfeeding. I didn't have any problems with supply that I would blame on it. I stopped using it in July, stopped breastfeeding in October, and got pregnant again in November. I just read that Nexplanon is also progestin-only. I liked it a lot before getting pregnant, so I'll probably consider it this time. I have no idea how these interact with anxiety medication, so make sure you have the conversation with your OB and therapist.
