GPs

My 2 month old has had very loose stools for over 2 weeks now. Sometimes they will be really wet, sometimes there will be lumps of mucus in them. I have taken my baby to the GP on two occasions and they have had no concerns.. she's feeding well and she doesn't have a temperature. But surely, this is not right? My baby shouldn't be pooing 5/6 times a day (she used to only poo 1 time a day) I'd ask for a third appointment but they'll just say the same thing. Am I being paranoid? Or is this totally normal? Baby is formula fed fyi

My LO had bowel surgery so I’ve spent far to much time talking to doctors about her bowel and that sounds quite normal. The mucus it from their bowels, it’s lubrication to help things pass through you likely didn’t see it because it would have been less noticeable on the harder stools. It’s also normal for formula baby’s to have diarrhoea as well as harder ones whilst things are still developing. My LO was on a high calorie formula for a while after surgery and her stools were loose too, practically water with a few chunks. Just make sure she’s still eating and maybe ask your HV to weigh her if your really concerned to make sure she’s absorbing calories but it doesn’t sound like there’s anything wrong x

I’d say it’s quite normal. Babies that young do tend to poo quite a lot especially if formula fed.

My 8 month old has gone from no poo for 13 days to 9 poos in 1 day!! So it can vary depending on if you breast feeding or formula feed, or combination feed and also on your diet, and when baby starts weaning. As long as baby is feeding well and producing wet nappies (so not becoming dehydrated), I would monitor or speak to your health visitor as well. Also look for other symptoms- does your baby have reflux, gas, uncomfortable after feeding?

My lb has this type of poo when he’s teething, he doesn’t dribble so it all comes out with his poo instead and gives it a mucusy look x If you are still concerned go back to GP or speak with your HV x

Sounds very normal. It's supposed to be liquid, frequency changes a lot
