Nursery

Hi! So my son is 3 and goes to nursery for 3 days a week. 30 hours total. We get the 30 hours funding but still have a huge bill. Don’t get me wrong we expect to still pay but it seems extortionate. I’m just trying to see what other people pay with the funding? It’s stretched so he only gets 24hrs a week funding. If you don’t mind could anyone let me know what they’re paying monthly for nursery with the funding? Thank you

I only pay £70 a term for her 2 lunches a week

Same we pay £352 it was near £800 without 30 hours funding.

@Lisa does your little one go three days a week? We’re getting invoices for nearly £500 even with the funding

Hi. My son is 3 and goes 3 days and gets 15 hours and I remember thinking I really expected it to be a better ‘discount’ than that. I spoke to another mum and apparently nurseries are upping their prices due to all the government funding

She does go 3 days a week too

I wanted to add another day but with funding we just can't afford it

My girl goes 3 days a week and after the funding it was £354 for April to July

@Liv yeh see that’s so much less than us. Just for may it’s £490 and I just don’t understand it!

@Jenny yeah this is what they’re saying, which I understand I really do. But if my son is going for 30 hours a week and he’s funded 24, I don’t understand why I’m paying £100 for those 6 hours. We used to pay a lot more before the funding so it’s nothing crazy, but it just seems to not make sense. We also seem to be paying so much more than everyone else.

That’s actually crazy!! Especially just for May, that’s wild

My May invoice was 835 with the funding for 5 days.

I learnt very fast different nurseries have their own "surcharges" what does your nursery charge for a full day session? What hours does she do? Any extra cost for meals? A lot of nurseries have increased surcharges because this free childcare sadly really under funds them.

I pay around extra £100 a week for extra curriculum and food. Its about £20 a day which I find extremely expensive

We do get 85% of the invoice back through UC it's just our initial payment.

In Northern Ireland we get no funding, at least not until they're older, and if u work (and don't get benefits) then u get no help either. I pay around £600 a mth for 3days a week

My 3 year old attends 3 full days with working family funding West London Area. He attends 30 hrs a week. weekly funded hours 22hr 21min - £0 hours to pay - 7hr 39min - £357.50 other costs (food etc) - £183.00 total per month £540.50 Hope that helps. 🤍

If you search busybees Calculator you can put in your location, sessions and funding. It will tell you how much they charge per week. Just so you can see what others pay. I think mine will be around £95 a week, which is roughly what it was for my 5yo when he went (3 sessions, 10 hours a session, stretched funding)
