This new “order “ about discipline in schools including physical punishment recently signed by trump. How are we feeling about this?

As someone who works in education and a mother, it’s a hell no for me.

I’ve seen interviews and reports on it all over social media so I’m curious what everyone’s take on it is

I’m British so haven’t heard about this but he’s signed off for children to be physically punished in schools?! You bet if ANYONE raised a hand to my daughter it would be the last time they had hands! Absolutely not. People who want to abuse or hurt children will always gravitate towards working with them, horrible fact but it is that’s why so many teachers/daycare workers/janitors/handyman type figures get caught doing stuff to kids. So this just leaves a door wide open to abusers 😔

We are homeschooling. So I guess we don’t have to worry about it. But my man won’t tolerate our kid getting hit. That’s the one thing I know will make him rage out.

Does anyone have a link? All I can find are articles about DEI initiatives and racial disparities in discipline. Edit: nevermind, found a Snopes article about this: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-schools-corporal-punishment/ The order doesn't mention physical discipline. It's about rolling back Obama-era initiatives to eliminate racial disparities in discipline, which often disproportionately targets black kids. There's no mention of physical punishment. Trump can kiss my Canadian ass but be careful of misinformation and fearmongering on both sides, please.

I mean those one kids who beat their teacher and she lost site in one eye I don't care if they get paddled lol but for the most part I Don't think schools should be hitting kids especially with all the pedos who keep infiltrated school faculty jobs that's just too sketchy

I haven't heard anything about that as im Canadian. But if there was ever a law enacted that allowed my kids teachers to hit them, my kids are out of school. I'll fist fight any adult that lays a punishing hand on my child, laws or not lol.

@Melissa this! Stop with fear mongering please

Hey incognito do you actually have the sources on that? The EO he just put out IS shitty, because it explicitly says it removes equitable protections for kids in schools, but it doesn’t mention corporal punishment in any way that I can discern. I’ve read the whole text

@Cassie I’m gonna disagree on that though, this is EXACTLY the time to make it clear to people they do need to be afraid of what’s happening, and to find ways to prepare for, and resist this wave of fascism and economic and infrastructural destruction. Some uninformed people try to hand-wave it like “ oh all presidents change things, you’re just mad cause you lost, this is just normal presidential orders” or whatever. Talk to literally anyone in government, people who have worked there for 20, 30 years. This is not. It is unprecedented destruction and terrorism.

Fear mongering is exactly why Canada now has a Liberal (but actually Conservative) PM today and not a baby facist suckling at the teet of Big Orange Blob.

@Trish I'm all for informing people of what is actually going on, but you have to stick with facts. There are a lot of things Trump has done that I don't agree with, but the assertion that he is bringing back corporal punishment in schools is blatantly false. ALWAYS check your facts and don't go spreading misleading information, even if it fits your narrative.

@Trish I was responding to Melissa who posted an article they proves the posters information is wrong and no one is saying they will hit your child in school. Let’s focus on what’s real that’s all
