Birth control

Hi ladies, I am currently 7 weeks pp. had my 6 week checkup and birth control was discussed. I am unsure of what to get on as I am not doing depo or pills. I am thinking patch. However, my doctor suggested the iud but have heard so many horror stories about it. My concern is due to hormones I start experiencing depression or anxiety as I have history in the past of such. Also i was advised to not get pregnant in atleast 1.5 years due to hemorrhaging right after birth to my son. If you have iud please let me know your experience. Thank you ☺️

I have a copper IUD which has no hormones. It hurt being put in but otherwise i don't feel it. It lasts for 10 years. I've had mine for 2 years and so far so good. It being non hormonal and something I don't have to worry about every day are the reasons I got it. I would recommend it.

The patch isn't localized, so if you're concerned with hormone fluctuations or reactions, don't choose that option. Maybe a copper IUD or mini pill? I have a Mirena (hormonal) IUD and I actually love it. Very annoying for the first 3/4 months with the spotting, but I genuinely love it

I had the more a for almost 5 years. No complaints and I didn’t have a period literally the entire time 🤣

I had the copper IUD for 5 years before pregnancy. I loved it. If I need to get on birth control after kids I would 100% go copper IUD again. But hubby and I have to discuss if he's getting a vasectomy. He already joked about it so when it's time we'll talk more.

IUDs are so much easier to get after child birth. I felt a slight pinch for a second and then I was fine. I did bleed for about 5-6 weeks after. But I was used to wearing pads from the lochia after childbirth so didn’t phase me. The copper one has no hormones if you’re concerned about that. I got the liletta one with progesterone and I feel good. Hasn’t bothered me or my partner and I’ve had it about 6.5 weeks now.

I’ve just heard it hurts a lot before having babies. So I was on the pill before.

I was scared of any contraceptive that would make me gain weight uncontrollably, affect my mood or heavy flow, as those were personal battles, so I went with the arm implant (Nexplanon), and thankfully, it worked for me. I do not experience any symptoms, not even a headache. Good luck

The IUDs were both very bad for me. The hormonal ones gives you an incredible amount of hormones, like twice as many as pregnancy. Made me CRAZY like throwing plates, sad, angry, hit my man with my car raging crazy. It also gave me terrible headaches and a foggy mind. The copper IUD gave my body too much copper, copper and estrogen have a complex relationship as estrogen increases copper absorption in to the blood and copper acts as a competitive inhibitor with estogen which interferes with the steroid binding site on the receptor. I used to get heavier periods, jaw tightening, but after a year or two of placement, it became incredibly painful to poop. I went in to have it checked they said it was placed correctly. Went home still really hurt to poop. I was getting to the point where i was scared to poop, even got a squatty potty. Still a sharp stabbing pain. Had it taken out and a new one in, still really hurt to poop. Obgyn said it must be a different issue, not the IUD. Had it taken out anyway pain gone.

How long did you have the IUDs in? @honor

@Silvia I had the hormonal IUD (mirena) for 5 or 6 years and the symptoms worsened over time, and it took me some time to figure out that it was what was causing my issues. My obgyn kept telling me it was impossible. Then i ended up doing research on the canadian health websites and was able to find all of my symptoms listed. A month or so after removal I started to feel my self again. I had the copper one for between 2-3 years, at first there was no pain, but at about that 2 year mark it started.

Gotcha! Thank you
