Antisickness pills third trimester

Hello , I been prescribed Ondansetron because I have severe sickness and I am entering my third trimester. I am a bit worried as they normally don’t prescribed as it might have some side effects on the baby in the first trimester . Has anyone tried it?

Yes! I had it towards the end of my 1st trimester when nothing else had worked and I felt awful. Now 31 weeks and the nausea has come back so my doctor is happy for me to take them again. They're the only thing that's worked for me.

My sister was prescribed Zofran through out the entirety of both her pregnancies & her kids came out without any issues! I’m a regular Zofran user outside of pregnancy so when I was pregnant and needed meds to help with nausea my obgyn put me on a med called bonjesta to make sure Zofran would still be an effective medication for me postpartum, not really out of concern for my child!

Hey, I was on it a few weeks ago when I had a vomiting bug. It’s very safe in the 3rd trimester as baby is fully formed (the risk is 1st trimester is cleft lip etc.) I was also really worried but did lots of research and the doctors really reassured me 😊

I’m still taking Ondansetron and I’m 15 tomorrow, have been taking it since 9 weeks. Also was worried about taking it with me being in the first trimester but had reassurance from a consultant about it being very low risk (albeit still a risk!), I believe it goes from 11 in 10,000 to 14 in 10,000 when taking it. The midwife in charge was telling me she took it in her pregnancies and it was something they administer very often for HG patients as it’s more like a steroid therefore very effective. X

Just here to say I also take this drug, I know there are risks but when you cant function as a human I think the side effects outweigh the risks. They also wouldn't prescribe it if there was a significant risk to baby. Like others have said before, the main risk is cleft lip and that would have already occurred if taking in the first trimester. It's been the only thing that's worked for me, and my gp was also very reassuring. I take xonvea at night time to get me through the night. Xx
