Are your babies speaking much?

Do they say more than one word at a time? Mine says lots of words but not more than one at a time not really sure how to encourage it when I try to say for her to copy she looks at me like a mad woman and usually just says a random word 😂 Unless it’s uh oh which is every 2 minutes 😅

Nope. Joining 2 words tends to happen from around 18 months - 2y

Oh ok there’s a couple of kids I went to a group with and I see their mums post on Instagram one said I love you and the other said more please so I thought maybe they should be by now 😅

https://speechandlanguage.org.uk/help-for-families/ages-and-stages/ if you’re ever in doubt, this is a fantastic resource. But your little one not being able to doesn’t mean she’s behind in any capacity, lots of words at this age is fantastic. Lots of recasting, “shoes- yes! Red shoes, big shoes, your shoes” etc. and repeating short phrases like the ‘more please’ etc and she will eventually begin to mimic you 😌

This is fab thank you!

@Siobhan I also want to add, though, "more please," and "I love you" are more than one ord they often count as a phrase when it comes to language development and, therefore, not as saying two or more words 🙂

Aww ok. Don’t get me wrong I was well impressed with her saying bubble the other day but then when I see that these babies are a bit younger saying these phrases so clearly like they’ve been saying them a while I thought maybe we’re not doing aswell as I thought 😅

@Siobhan, I'm sure you are doing amazing!!! Bubble is a great word 🙂 And trust me, I'm the same, trying my best always and still getting sucked in by insta.. it's our inspiration and curse 🤦🏼‍♀️😅

Repeat words/sounds here such as bye bye or na na (banana) but no other joint words yet, as above we would expect that a little later 🥰

The only “sentences” my little one says are “more berries” and “I love you” consistently. Sometimes she’ll say other conjoined words. Like she said, “I ride the bike” the other day. But I think it’s normal at this age to only be saying singular words. My girl is just a major talker.

Wait my baby isn’t saying any words? Never mind sentences

@CeeCee thank you x

@Caitlin I think I was sucked into the whole social media I already felt she was really late walking and keep getting mum guilt that I’m not doing enough since the newest arrival 🫣 so when I see other babies that are younger doing stuff she isn’t I’m like I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong when in reality they will do it when they’re ready ☺️

@Siobhan completely feel this! Always comparing my boy to other babies his age thinking I aren’t doing enough. Feeling mum guilt coz I’m pregnant and feel like I can’t give him as much as I should be this is why he is “slower” then others his age! But try to remind myself he’ll do these things when he’s ready! We’re all doing great and should give ourselves more credit xxx

@Caitlin my son isn’t saying any words yet either x
