Car seats

Hi! Not sure if there’s such a thing, but wondering if anyone knows of anywhere you can go & try car seats in your car before committing to buying it? Sick of wasting money on multiple car seats & they end up too bulky for my car 🫠 Ayrshire & surrounding please. Thanks!

I went to little peas but dunno if there's any near you 🤞 does Halfords maybe do it too?

Little Peas in Dunfermline are really helpful in getting the right seat for your car and will fit it on the day. It's not super local though.

https://www.dewaldenspramcentre.com/collections/car-seats-1 This is Kilmarnock I dunno how far that is for you they might be helpful?

@Megan forgot about Halfords actually! If I can’t find anywhere I may take a trip to the one you’ve said, it’s only an hour away x

Smyths toy store do

@Megan oh this is 5 minutes from me - thank you!

@Gemma oh do they? I never knew that, that’s where I just bought my last one!

They let me make sure it fit x

I think the Glasgow Pram Warehouse/Store near the Barras does this and maybe Mamas & Papas too x

I second the pram centre. You can book online for an appointment for one of their team to talk you through car seat options and fit it

Most chains (Halfords, Smyth's, John Lewis, etc.) are pretty rubbish for advice, they'll just tell you what's legal not necessarily what's safest. If you're happy to potentially ignore what they say then you definitely could try there just for seeing how the seat fits in the car (I wouldn't necessarily trust them to fit it correctly though). If you're after advice or a longer lasting RF seat then the best bet is an independent retailer. Unfortunately there aren't many good ones in Scotland. Little Peas in Dunfermline is excellent although I appreciate that's a bit of a trek for you. Glasgow Pram centre also stocks ERF seats, I haven't bought anything from them but wasn't impressed with their customer service the couple of times I've been in. The Axkid website has a list of stockists - they're normally a decent bet, even if you don't want an Axkid seat (they tend to be well trained and stock a variety of ERF seats)

@Katie thanks for the advice! Just hoping to find something that isn’t huge as I feel all the ERF car seats are so big & bulky and it just looks so unsafe in my car 🙈 will have a look at axkid - thanks!

@Robyn lots are quite bulky but not all. Unfortunately most chain stores will only have seats up to 105cm which won't last long enough for most children to reach safe high back booster age. Axkid seats are a bit more compact than others, depending on how they're installed, and the Avionaut Sky is also quite compact although a shorter shell so will be outgrown sooner. Axkid One and BeSafe Beyond are both isofix 125cm RF seats and both very compact but unfortunately also expensive
