Free child care

Hi all, I am wondering if I qualify for free child care. I am a stay at home mum of a 15 month old and I want to start sending her to nursery a few times a week. I know that in September working people get 30 free hours. If my child’s dad works would my daughter qualify if I don’t work.

It’s for working parents (so both parents have to work) x

How many hours would I have to work to qualify, I don’t want to send her fully yet but I really need a break, I’m so mentally and physically exhausted and I’m all by myself

When she turns three she will qualify for 15 hours free whether you’re working or not, 30 free hours is only for both working parents. If you claim certain benefits she may be entitled 15 hours free from two years old I believe x

I think they say you have to earn more than £183/week or something like that so I don’t think it’s based on hours, but I’m not sure, I’d call them and check. X

As far as I know it’s based on the amount you earn but it’s based on 16 hours at minimum wage

It depends on your age as well, you both need to earn at between at least £120-£195 a week. You wouldn’t qualify if you’re not working though.

You won’t be entitled to until your child is 2, and then she will get the 15 hours. Also both parents have to work in order to qualify for the 30 hours

@Adjoa they don’t get any hours until 3 unless parents are working or receiving certain benefits

@N 💞 If you on low income or not working, you get 15 hours of free education when your child is 2 and a term

@Adjoa it’s not as simple as just ‘not working’ there are still criteria she’d need to hit to be eligible, and certain benefits she’d need to be receiving. Her partner works so she may not be eligible for any benefits therefore not eligible for childcare until the child is 3

Right. If her partner works then it’s a no for her. She will have to pay

https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/ There's a quiz to see if you're eligible
