Washing baby clothes

Bought some bits for the baby to pack in my hospital bag but not sure how to wash my clothes. Am I allowed to use laundry powder? Or is it best to wash with no product for babies first outfits?

anything non bio is fine & recommended. I use fairy xxx

There are specific detergents for baby clothes you can get

For the first wash, I'd do a short wash (on mine, that's 15 mins) just to get rid of any factory chemicals and freshen them up. Then you want to use any non-bio. Mine just so happens to be some Fairy that I was gifted, but in future, I'll be using the non-branded that I always do. For the first washes, you don't need to use fabric softener, but if you do, again, any are fine, but most people light to go for a lighter sent, like cotton or fresh linen etc. If you find that baby's skin is sensitive to any of these once born, you can then play around with which product it could be. The whole 'baby specific products' is purely a marketing thing. You can use them. They're completely safe. But they'll likely cost more because they're marketing toward parents who think that they can't use the exact same product without a baby's face on the front. For reference, I've got an own brand Asda non-bio detergent and fabric softener that I will be using once the Fairy is done

Thanks so much everyone for your responses x
