I have an interuterine growth restricted baby that is currently at the 5th percentile. If you haven’t already they’ll likely send you for a bunch of blood tests to rule out infections, you’ll get tested for preeclampsia, maybe gestational diabetes again (I had mine at 20 weeks so we’re retesting it) and then if all comes back okay they’ll consider it an ‘unexplained’ IUGR baby and they’ll do weekly or fortnightly scans to monitor the baby. If I can give you any advice, stay off google/chatGPT/reddit etc. There is something like a 96% chance that either you just make small babies or your placenta isn’t functioning properly, and that goes up to 99% chance if all of the blood tests come back negative. When we first found out I spiralled heavily becuase I spent so much time on google and it made me so unbelievably anxious and depressed.
Some babies are big and some babies are small. The bell curve exists and some have to be at the top and some at the bottom. There’s likely nothing wrong with your baby. Try as best you can to stay calm and relaxed.
@Madeleine think that’s the hardest thing is not play doctor google as this is my third baby and we haven’t had one this little measuring. On recent blood tests only low iron but guess have to wait till Tuesday to follow up
Absolutely, I totally understand. I did google and it was honestly the worst thing for me. If you can try and keep yourself busy between now and Tuesday it’ll definitely benefit you
@Madeleine thanks so much for advice 😊
Growth scans are highly inaccurate and lead to unnecessary intervention.
Both my girls had igur trust your gut mumma and please don’t let hospitals and doctors stress you out I was an absolute stress head my first too pregnancy being told there was something wrong, early delivery ect I’m pregnant with my third and just had a growth scan done and he’s measuring right on schedule every pregnancy is different feel free to message me if you have any questions I was in hospital twice a week every week with my girls so pretty experience with this.. all the best mumma 💗
It’s so stressful I am in the same boat. Had my growth scan as they said the baby is steadily growing but still small. I have low risk NIPT but they still asked me if I wanted amniocentesis - I declined. They took my blood to check for infections and they said placenta is looking good and so are all the bones, brain etc. they were saying it’s likely that the baby is small. I am freaking out as both me and my husband are tall and strong 😅 They want to see me in 3weeks again. I guess this is our life now, so stressful. I hope it all goes well with your baby!
@Marija what were you measuring at?
Fibula, Femur and Tibia measuring at 4th percentile
Little update after doctors, have to get a repeated ultrasound and if bubs is still measuring small will get transferred to a specialist and different doctor to make sure everything is okay.
Just try to keep calm, I’m sure it’s all good and your bubs is just small but healthy :)
I feel like I would ring the midwives and discuss it
