Booked mine for 28 weeks exactly x
I didn’t have it with my first either and he didn’t get RSV but there’s always that small chance and I don’t want to risk it so I’m getting it this time x
Unfortunately, due to its link to GBS, albeit rare. The vaccine still has warnings attached to it and the CDC/FDA are still investigating the safety of the vaccine. So I won't be having this one. All that matters is that you are comfortable with your decision hun.
@Sophia I don’t really want it, I didn’t have it with my first and he is fine but just not too sure because it’s only just been brought out and not done research. Think I’m just worried incase my unborn baby gets it when he’s born so I just don’t know yet 100% I’m in the middle at the moment.
I totally understand that. I have a 2 year old daughter who also hasn't had RSV. I also don't know anyone who has had it, but there is still a chance albeit slim the new baby could get it. But im looking at it mainly from the vaccination stand point and I'm not comfortable with the current data. Hence my decision.
My midwife at my booking appt mentioned it and she told me that she’s looked into it and isn’t comfortable recommending it due to risks involved. The only vaccine I’ve taken this pregnancy is my whooping cough one and that was solely because I’ve had it with the last 3 pregnancies and I’d done the research on it a long time ago (my oldest is 17)
I was planning on having mine. There’s been an rsv outbreak in babies in Iceland and the midwives there are recommending people not to have any visitors for a few weeks and not have anyone touch the baby. Iceland doesn’t offer the vaccine. My midwife said there’s been 30.000 babies hospitalized and 30 deaths in the UK per year from it and when I googled it it said the same.
I’ve heard about quite a few hospitalisations of infants with it so am getting it to give as much protection to baby as possible x
They didn't offer it for my first and my son thankfully hasn't caught it so far, but so many of our friends' kids have been hospitalised that I want the vaccine. Seeing your baby unable to breathe, struggling, in a hospital bed... The higher risk of that vs the much lower risks of the vaccine are worth it for me.
I’ve got a colleague who’s 4 week old is in hospital with RSV and he’s heartbreakingly poorly. For me that has confirmed why I’m having it x
