We bought 2 x tula free to grow carriers. My husband is over a foot taller than me so wanted a sling each so that we could easily put them on without having to spend ages adjusting them. I had a play with a few slings that you tie at our local sling library and just didn't feel comfortable tying them even without a baby in them so have gone for a carrier that they can use intontoddler age instead. May be worth contacting your local sling library for advice and to try a few out or you can rent them for a while once baby is here. My local sling library isn't very close at all but they were able to send slings to try if we needed
We have the babybjorn harmony and it’s amazing. However at the beginning she was too small to go in that. We used it from about 10 weeks to 2 years. I used the freerider slings before she was 10 weeks. They take a bit of getting used to learning how to put them on but once you’ve mastered it they’re amazing and my daughter lived in them the first 10 weeks of her life. I have 3 as then I had more if she spat up/pooed on one as they were so essential!
We have an ergo baby 360 which is great, but for the most part in the early days I’ll use a sling. I used Freerider with my son which is just a single piece of fabric, but I found it tricky at first. My SiL gave me a Caboo and that was a great midway option. It got me used to the position of a plain fabric sling because it’s more structured. If I wanted a bit of extra support I’d use that. My baby was 5lb 9 so very small and I much preferred the softer cotton slings in the beginning. I never went to a sling library but they have been recommended several times.
Look up see if there is a sling library near you, you can basically go and try some on, and also rent them for set time to see if baby gets on with it before buying
We've just got the Tutti Bambino sling and tested it out last night on a teddy 😅 seems good! But got nothing else to compare it to haha
Following, I feel the same. It’s a minefield x
