Are double prams worth it?

My LO will be 22 months when we have our second. Shes been walking since 10mo so very active 😂 Other than the odd family outing we almost never used her pram. I walk my dogs with her in her carrier every morning (even now). I still have her travel system stored and she now has a buggy. I guess my Q is would you still opt for a double travel system? Or would u continue with a newborn in a carrier/toddler in buggy until the newborn is old enough for the buggy themselves? Im totally stumped 🤣

In your situation you might be best to keep on with a carrier and buggy and if there's 2 of you going out then take both if you don't wanna use carrier for baby. We have a travel system and a buggy and if there was two of us we used both. If not my eldest would be on his harness and walk. Only issue I had with that is he messed around and ran into a wall and hurt him on a drop kerb and fell over and I had to move baby to flat pavement before sorting him out

I have a 22 month age gap (now 2.5 years and 8.5 months old) and use the double pram daily. My youngest really struggles to cot nap and I rely on it to go for walks so the youngest can sleep without my eldest getting tired from walking. It’s also great for day trips! However if your eldest likes to walk a lot, I’d say get a tandem pram that easily goes into a single. I opted for a side by side bugaboo and love it, but it’s a big bit of kit

My first was 14 months when my second was born and we bought a pram that could convert to a double but we honestly haven't used it much. He was also walking at 10 months and would rather walk and only sits in the seat when he's tired. I have gone for a few walks with our newborn in the carrier and my boy in the pram and that's worked out pretty good. In hindsight I would have bought one of those bike/skateboard attachment things for him to sit on instead of a whole new pram

@Katie oh god! 😩 These toddlers are something else. I hope he was ok! Thats my thoughts tbh, i could use the carrier and single buggy for daily dogs walks. My dogs are old and its just 20min round the area. And if we go out as a family take both prams. But i didnt know if there was maybe something im not considering. Its a travel buggy we have too so shouldnt be an issue fitting both in the car to go out x

@Amy thank you for that insight. Its so hard to know what will work for them! x

@Tabitha thank you. I did consider would a buggy board be an option too. Lots of options to consider x

He's was fine after he got over it. Turns over the little walk to and from the GP and his run into the wall made him tired and that's why we played up. Does seem like toddlers these days are different creatures. if there's two people going then there's no point in getting a double. I only got mine as were due to visit a zoo with my sister where her daughter sometimes requires a pushchair so taking two wasn't possible and my eldest likes to run if he's left alone to his own devices in the wild

@Katie 🤣🤣🤣

We didn’t go for a double travel system, but a double stroller with a newborn insert. We have a 23 month old and a 5 week old and it’s been so useful, particularly for trips to the shops etc when I need to have things in my hands so can’t also push the pram and hold my daughter’s hand. We have the Ickle Bubba Venus Prime.

I have a 22m gap and wouldn’t be without my double some days. For when they fall asleep at the same time going food shopping or when I just need to shop without the risk of eldest trying to wander off and bending down with a baby in a carrier isn’t ideal. X

@Dani ur so lucky to get pram naps! I think my little one last pram napped when she was about 5 months old 🤣 but then again shes not often in her pram so thats probably a factor lol x

@Bec thats interesting! Defo something to have a think about. I do think the side by side type ones look more appealing although foes it fit through doors? I have quite alot of steps outside so generally i need to take the pram out and then put my little one in it outside anyway so not a deal breaker x

I have a 7 month old and a 2 year old, we decided not to invest in a double buggy and it's worked for us. My youngest is always in the carrier or on the odd occasion in the buggy (she hates the buggy anyways and only lasts in it for short periods or when she's sleeping). My eldest either walks everywhere, goes on the buggy board or in the buggy. I haven't baby wore her since she was younger and she doesn't like it now otherwise I'd consider a tandem carry. Not having a buggy was just easier for us as I didn't want to deal with the stress of getting it on and off public transport with them being so big and bulky 🥲 it's worked for us up until now and I don't see that changing anytime soon, I guess it depends what you feel would work best for you😊x

@Chloe this is good to hear! i am wondering if the double would be a waste of money so great that someone else found not having one worked well for them x

We haven’t had an instance where it hasn’t fit through a door yet, however it can be a tight squeeze at times 😅 but we’ve always made it through, I just tell my daughter to keep her hands in and breathe in 🤣

@Bec 🤣 brilliant! x

I bought a double pram (I candy orange) second hand when I was pregnant with my second. There are 21 months between my 2. Youngest is 4 months now, we haven't used the double pram loads to be honest but I like having the option. My youngest is in the carrier a lot to the point but it's sooo hot and sweaty now it's warm 😅 so I will try putting him in the pram more. Icandy orange also has a built in buggy board which I think will come in handy - maybe you can just buy a buggy board to attach to your current travel system pram! I definitely wouldn't get the double pram is essential. I guess it depends on your lifestyle and how much you will have both kids going out by yourself without an extra pair of hands.
