I don't think it's a problem, our daughter sounds like she's at a similar stage. I can't remember how many exactly, but at 18months they just need to be saying a handful of words, excluding your variation of mum and dad. Anything more then that and you've just got an early speaker! I've heard reading increases their vocabulary, as much talking to/with them you can is always good. Otherwise, your toddler sounds perfect!
He’s saying mama dada, thank you, more and the rest is more of babbling
Girlll my son is 3 and is the same way as your son
At 18 months my son had 4 words. We started therapy for an expressive speech delay. A year later, he's so much more talkative and expressive. It definately helped. Every day he says new words and new combinations of words.
Never hurts to talk to your doctor, but our guy seemed behind for a bit and then his language exploded a little after 2!
Should be using at least 50 words before 2nd birthday.
That’s fine all kids are different. Very variable. Between 2-3 is when speech starts to develop for many kids. Keep reading, talk to him, etc. Sometimes when they are around other kids or go to school their speech improves.
@Denise you can tell he’s trying to, but it’s not coming out the way he wants it to you can also tell that he’s listening to what you’re saying and trying to copy it, but it still just comes out as more of a babble
Well a lot can happen in 5 months the before he turns 2. I would just keep working at it with him everyday and if by the time he’s 2 he’s not there yet, his pediatrician will refer him to speech therapy.
My girl will be 3 in September and is really behind. She ended up needing tubes in her ears and she is trying a lot more now.
You’re not over thinking, he’s definitely behind for speech milestones. Our son was the same and we now have a diagnosis, he’s a gestalt language processor. So way behind for regular standards, but “on time” for being a GLP. So we’re doing therapy and therapeutic preschool. I’m also doing a detox to remove heavy metals and parasites.
