Induced

So I had my 35 week scan yesterday and they told me they have to induce me because looking back at my 20 week scan my baby should be alot bigger than what he is They said 20 week scan was looking like he would be at least 6/7lb by now but he’s only 5.11lb Or maybe he just isn’t taking the foods I’m eating ? But they said we have to get him out as he’s not growing much

Can they not tell you the current projected weight ?

I’m 34 weeks and my baby is only weighing 3lb 12 oz currently

I’m 37 weeks and I have just been induced for this reason too, baby was weighing 5lbs at my 36 +4 growth scan

That seems odd to me! I had my 36wk scan yesterday and baby weights estimate of 5lb 9oz, on the smaller size and under 50th percentile on all measurements but they said they’re not worried enough to send me anywhere to be checked x

Oh sorry I just see he may of dropped weight! Although I would have thought he would still be within a healthy range. Keep us updated 🫶🏽

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to. Ask about placenta function etc.... measurements alone can be wildly inaccurate and inductions can be a nasty process x

Yes there will be a reason why they want to induce you, for me it was the placenta restrictions (why baby was slowing down on weight)

I would be querying that personally. That doesn’t seem like a terribly small weight? My son didn’t even weigh that much at birth. I’ve had growth scans with all mine (third baby now) you don’t HAVE to be induced. I will be declining induction again personally. Ask for extra scans and Doppler scans to look at placental function, extra monitoring. They’re always so quick to induce because a baby is big or small but that alone isn’t enough reason in my opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️ someone has to have big babies, and someone has to have small babies, we all come in different shapes and sizes, it doesn’t make sense for everyone’s babies to come out the same size!

Are they going to re scan you first or go straight for induction? Did they say anything about the placenta they are probably concerned it’s started to stop early, We had this in our last pregnancy we said we wanted a rescan a week later if he hadn’t gained enough we would induce but he had put on over the 0.5 pound weekly average so we kept going till full term x

They said my placenta getting smaller and no space for him if I don’t get induced I could have a stillbirth

They said I have to come in every week to hospital till I’m induced

It’s tricky as you would ideally want to make 37 weeks, baby is a good size already though and they would probably do the steroid injections to mature baby’s lungs, go with what you feel is best for you both x

I had my 36 week, 2 day scan yesterday and babys measuring 5lbs 9oz, and his femur length bas dropped to under 5th centile since my 32 week scan not growing should be and his head measurements are not where they should be, and dropped somehow in 4 weeks he's not growing as he shoild be, he's 5lbs 9oz but 4 weeks ago he was 4lbs 2oz so hasn't grown an awful lot. Dropped from 26th centile to 19th centile in weight. Currently waiting for a phonecall of screening team/fetal medicine with a plan suppose to be induced at 38 weeks in 1 week and 3 days time but not sure if I'll have to be induced sooner. My mum and friend was for this reason but not sure ! X
