Had my tubes removed

Hey mamas! I just had my 2nd baby via c-section & decided to also have a salpingectomy (had my fallopian tubes removed). Apart from a painful first period I couldn’t find much information about possible side effects/changes women might experience. There isn’t much info available online- I think it isn’t very common- but here in Canada some doctors are recommending it instead of tying the tubes since it’s more effective as birth control & more permanent. Has anyone had one? I’d really appreciate if you could share your experience (if you’d prefer to do so privately let me know & I’ll DM). Thanks!

I had my tubes cut during my c section in October. My first few periods were really heavy but I just presumed that was down to first periods after birth. Otherwise I've had no symptoms. Not heard of the name salpingectomy so presume it's the same procedure?

I had a bisalp about a year ago after a ruptured ectopic almost killed me. I've not had many side effects other than a bit heavier periods with a little more cramping (not worse, just an extra day usually), though I am waiting on a doctor's referal for potential ovarian insufficiency, which is something that can happen after a bisalp, but also it can just happen after having a baby, or just cuz I'm in my mid 30s, so I don't know yet if it's related or not. Will find out in a bit over a month!

I had mine out in August during my last csection. My periods have been a lot heavier and I'm not at all pleased about it.

This is really helpful! I’m definitely wanting to because I am about to have my 4th child via c-section and honestly my body needs a break but I am so scared of birth control side effects.

I had my tubes removed after my c section. I have a bit more painful periods.

I got mine out during my 3rd c section & I haven’t noticed a difference at all. My friend had heavier and more painful periods but as the years have gone by they have gotten better. I’d prefer a worse period over worrying about birth control or getting pregnant again tbh.

I’ve had two sterilization procedures. The first time they cut/cauterized my tubes (form of tubal ligation) and one of my tubes grew back which caused me to fall pregnant 15 months after having it done. Then, I got my tubes removed the second time. It’s definitely hard to say what side effects or concerns can come from having it done when the ones most commonly mentioned can occur after having a baby no matter how the delivery was. But like someone else mentioned. It’s better to treat period symptoms versus chancing getting pregnant again. I have no regrets.
