@Nicole you could have achieved the same result eating less and sticking to a diet even when it gets incredibly difficult and could have avoided those nasty side affects. I did read up on the drug and I'm not judging you for taking it but I believe you could achieve your goal without it.
These medications work by making you feel satiated with less food. For a lot of people it helps to quiet the “food noise” that makes calorie restriction challenging or impossible. It also slows your foods movement through your GI tract.
@Terra for some people, the food noise is too loud. Most people who go this route have tried to do conventional diet and exercise routines. Yes you can do it on your own, but for many it helps them be able to achieve goals previously unattainable.
@Nicole I understand how drugs may do it faster, but eating slower and having self control and discipline over what you are eating and understanding portion control can lead to the same thing. Losing weight is hard and very difficult to stay disciplined on a strict diet or exercise but are th potential side affects from a drug worth taking? Genuinely trying to understand as I read that drug should be used along side diet and excerise. Also the drug it self sounds like it's for people with diabetes type 2 not weight loss.
@Terra some people just can’t do it the traditional way or they have so much weight to lose that this helps them achieve their goal in a more reasonable time frame. Sure some people use it to avoid doing hard work, but most are doing it as part of a comprehensive program. A lot of people tolerate these drugs really really well. For some, side effects are worth being able to make progress they weren’t able to achieve before. All medications have risk of side effects so it’s a decision of benefits and risks. The class was originally developed for diabetes but now is also approved for weight loss.
@Nicole I understand some people may need additional help due to having excessive weight to lose or ect. But GI issues are a big risk to take in my opinion and weight loss is a side effect of this drug not the goal. Support from people close to you would be a better option. I'd rather be a support buddy encouraging someone to stick to a diet take long harder route then potentially ending up harming their body to do it at a quicker rate and I think that's the kind of support more people need.
@Terra a ton of drugs have multiple indications. It doesn’t mean it’s a side effect. You’re being very judgmental of people who chose to use medication to assist them. I’m sure you take things like Tylenol and aleeve who have risks of liver failure, kidney damage, and GI bleeds.
@Nicole I am not being judgmental I'm sorry you feel that way but me being more support of someone doing something the harder way is not judgmental. As this drug is not designed for weight loss and has serious side affects and can be dangerous for your physical and mental health. I have an issue with a drug and the lack of support women have which would make them want to take this route. I care deeply for people and their physical and mental well being and I haven't read or learned anything that justifies taking this drug outside of its intended use which is diabetes.
@Terra you clearly aren’t looking in the right places.
@Nicole the right place for what exactly?
I read on another poll that her mum who’s been taking this for her actual diabetes, sometimes goes without and has trouble getting it in supply, because of all these other people who are now taking it for weight loss. And that’s sad. I follow a lot of weight loss and fitness and dance (and a lot pops up for me, it’s my algorithm) on IG and many of them have succeeded to lose weight after being morbidly obese with diet and exercise. Because this has now been targeted for weight loss it’s in critical supply for those who really need it for their actual diabetes.
@Terra for information. Again, things can have more than one use. For example, theres a drug that was developed as an antidepressant that is now used as an antibiotic. I saw @Kellie ‘s comment as well. I’m sorry if you’re mom is having a hard time finding her medication. It is a really tough position to be in for sure. That doesn’t mean people don’t also deserve to use it for other approved uses especially because the weight loss and healthier eating can be preventative for other things that may develop later on.
@Nicole mounjaro is not approved by the FDA for weightloss...
@Terra tirzepatide is.

@Nicole I'm sorry, was I talking about that drug?
@Nicole actually that was a little rude. This conversation is about mounjaro specifically so bringing other drugs in is actually unnecessary as I am not asking or talking about those. Stay on topic of this drug please.
@Terra tirzepatide is the drug name. Mounjaro and Zepbound have the same active ingredient. People are allowed to be prescribed the drug for weight loss if they want because we do know it is safe and effective since the difference is usually just a slightly different dose.
@Terra I do apologize that i thought it also had a weight loss indication but the drug itself under a different name is approved for weight loss.
It suppresses your appetite makes you feel as if you’re full when you aren’t , helps some people lose weight that’s it, That’s all . Along with the things its originally for like diabetics. It’s a shortcut for people that don’t want to do all that extra stuff.
Hi! I wanted to share this resource https://diningwithnature.com/ozempic-and-menstrual-cycles-what-you-need-to-know-before-starting/
@Redss shortcuts are only temporary if you aren't willing to put in the hard work to maintain progress or continue progress without the drug. @Aderet Dana Hoch Thanks for the resource, but this is unnecessary as I am only asking for or talking about the drug Mounjaro specifically.
@Terra you asked what does the drug do I’m simply giving you an answer and why people take it lol
@Redss I'm not disagreeing with you.
@Terra not saying you were lol 🤣. Hope you got the answers you’re looking for, enjoy this beautiful day today 🌞🌞
@Terra you come across like you don't really want to understand why people are taking it for weightloss, you just want to judge them. It is prescribed by drs and pharmacists as a weightloss treatment for people with BMI of obesity, it suppresses appetite. Saying people are lazy for using it, maybe some are, but others may have tried everything, have other issues, or even eating disorders, so to say they need to be more deciplined is appalling. It has also been found to help treating cancer
Thank you @Kath, I’m so glad someone called this out xx
@Kath where did I say it was Lazy? This drug can also cause eating disorders and mental health problems I've done research. And it is not used to treat cancer
@Kath thank you for being much more blunt and direct than I was! She’s really trying to be inflammatory at this point. It’s been explained, but she doesn’t want to hear it.
@Nicole I'm looking a for a reason that would make me change my perspective and yet no one has provided one. This is all temporary and no actual work being put in to to successfully keep weight off. The more you weigh the easier it is to lose weight, therefore obese people should not need just change habits.

@Terra people have explained it multiple times. It’s not meant to be used as a standalone. It’s mean to be used with diet and weight loss. It’s ok that it’s not for you. It’s not ok to keep wanting reasons explained to you when they’ve been repeatedly given. I get this isn’t going the way you wanted it to go, but maybe this isn’t the forum for this specific conversation. Think of how many people who need the medication to help them feel unsafe talking about their journey after reading your comments on a weight loss support forum.
@Terra in the UK there was a report on the news that they have found the use of these injections have been found to reduce cancer ... Correct it's currently not used to treat cancer but in the future maybe it will everything you are saying is implying people using this are lazy ... If they stay deciplined, how the hell do you know what they are going through or have been through!! It is a personal choice for THAT person, and some times the result or the desire, outweigh the possible side effects.
Also maybe people DONT WANT to exercise . Maybe people WANT to take the easy way out . Who cares 🤷🏽♀️ thats all perfectly fine 💯 you can’t be in a weight loss group and judge people on how they choose to lose the weight whether it’s working out or taking a supplement. Exercising and eating healthy isn’t as easy as taking a shot a day
@Redss this! And some people physically can’t work out! Often times losing weight means they are able to work out to help even more
@Nicole yess I agree 💯!! My mom has been trying to lose weight for 10 years now and physically cant work out she has fluid in her knees . She barely can drive long distances. I cant even carry my 5 month old for a long time without getting my inhaler because of my asthma. Alot of people cant exercise but they shouldn’t be judged for it especially if don’t even know their situation
It made my appetite disappear. I just stopped wanting to eat and some foods that I used to crave like chocolate just didn’t seem interesting anymore. My tummy stopped rumbling when I hadn’t eaten too. But I really lost all interest in eating and it led to some nasty side effects when I didn’t eat enough for several days.
