PCOS & Vitex advice

Hey ladies, I started taking vitex about 2 months ago to help with my PCOS symptoms and hopefully become pregnant. I’ve been working out, eating better and I feel better! I have started using the ovulation strips and I was ovulating on May 6th.. my husband and I did the deed before on the 4th and again on the 6th. I have been experiencing some spotting since the 13th along with some cramping but it hasn’t been anything close to what my periods are normally like.. it’s been a lot lighter. Like I don’t even need to wear a panty liner.. and my periods are normally very very heavy. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it was negative. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? I started getting my hopes up thinking it was implantation bleeding but from what I googled, implantation bleeding doesn’t last this long. And along with that negative test.. it’s just bummed me out.

Hi, I'm sorry I'm not answering your question but I'm just wondering whether a medical professional advised you to take vitex? I have read a book called 'It Starts With the Egg' (I found it really helpful, particularly as each chapter specifically refers to those with PCOS) and in that book it said vitex should be avoided by people with PCOS and it could make it harder to get pregnant? I'd recommend reading it if you haven't already. I hope someone else can answer your question! X

Yes, my obgyn recommended me taking it. I will definitely look into that book though! Does it recommend taking something else instead?

I got it on my kindle, in the UK it's quite expensive for a printed copy. Not sure about the US though. It recommends loads of things, including medication, vitamins / supplements and dietary things. I wouldn't be able to summarise it or tell you off the top of my head. But the way it's written is really helpful and clear x

Also try Irish Sea Moss. I really believe that's what did it for me.

That book “It Starts with the Egg” is my number one suggestion as well. I remember specifically for PCOS the best supplement for that was Inositol- take that for 3 months and you should notice a difference. I also think a prenatal with COQ 10 is good too. She also talks about a diet to avoid processed foods, increasing more organic, grass fed eggs and meat, avoiding plastics, avoiding scented things if you can. Basically removing toxins that interfere with our hormone production. I don’t have PCOS but I did take Vitex and it helped me clear up my skin because I had hormonal acne. From my understanding it also helps if you have low progesterone which can cause a thin uterine lining and can cause you to shed your lining early. It does take a couple of months/cycles to adjust to. When I started taking it actually helped eliminate my spotting and delayed my period. Maybe it’s bringing yours on early this month as you get adjusted. I’d get the inositol and read that book.

Yes I've just fallen pregnant the first month after upping my myoinositol dose to the one recommended in the book. I have been trying for a year. May just be a coincidence but who knows x

@HL that is awesome! Congratulations! What was your dose if you don’t mind me asking that you upped it to?

@Tammy thank you 🥰 so i had been taking 1000mg for about 2 months. Then this month I upped it to 4000mg, which is what's recommended for people with PCOS. Since finding out im pregnant I've gone down to 2000mg, because I'm not sure what the recommended dose when pregnant is x

@Tammy and @HL just started the book today! Thank you for your advice!
