Early scan

I’ve got a private scan tomorrow because I’ve had some bleeding today, I have an NHS one booked at the early pregnancy unit on Wednesday but I just couldn’t wait that long so got one tomorrow. If everything is okay, shall I cancel the NHS one? Or do they like to have their own scans on record? Will the private one be able to tell me the cause of the bleed? And if I do keep it, can I have 2 scans day after one another. Guidance seems to say 2 weeks between but researching it, it’s not unsafe to have more and the 2 weeks seems to be more so they can make comparisons on growth? Sorry I’m just panicking 😩

i had scans at 6,7 &8 weeks with my first pregnancy and all was fine. Just go to both! hope all is okay with baby❤️

Go to both, private scan sonographers dont have to tell you as much as an NHS one will x

With my first I needed regular scans to monitor her growth. The NHS refused to book me in for anything less than 2 weeks apart. I was a lot later in the pregnancy which might make the difference as there's less belly in the way

Please let me know what they say, I'm 8 weeks and had a pinkish bleed on and off for a couple of days that I'm worried about. I don't have my first scan for almost a month yet! I'm not sure if I should book one or not 🙏

@Emma is it just a couple of dots?

100% keep the NHS one, it would be good to have on your record too, plus you get to see baby again! 🥹 I haven’t heard of too many scans being harmful, so try not to worry about that xx

@Ebony yeah I think the issue is when you’re further along, because you can’t measure growth as well if scans are too close together x

@Emma I will! I had an odd couple of pin prick size spots last week which I wasn’t too concerned about, but this morning I had to change a pantliner it was that much. It’s been on and off all day. The early unit were lovely though, if you’re worried I would recommend calling x

@Beth O’Connor I think it's more down to the type of radiation it is and that it can be more harmful in a fully developed fetus

Ultrasound uses sound waves not radiation. You need 2 weeks between a scan to compare growth.

@H M it's a type of radiation sound waves. I was just digging deep into researching it all

@Ebony I'd love to see that research, as sound waves are by nature not radiation. Sound waves are safe.

@Emma have you got a referral for your early pregnancy unit? They should see you x

Also when I was 28 weeks I had about 4 scans in one day to rule out an issue, 2 in a few days will be fine x

Go to both, I had this at 7 weeks and went for a private scan before the nhs one. The private clinic told me to still attend the nhs one as they are medically trained to look for a cause of the bleed. Side note- my bleed was nothing and baby was all fine 🤞🏼 for you xxx

I think the NHS recommend 2 weeks between internal scans? If you’re having one Tuesday I wouldn’t bother getting another Wednesday personally xx

@Liv thank you xxx

I had some bleeding too at 6 weeks and 3 days, but after calling my friends they told me they also had it, I was still apprehensive 😥 because my bleeding was red, not brown like them, went for a private scan two days later as the triage midwife people told me they “couldn’t do anything for me” as I was too early in my pregnancy 🫤 They did a transvaginal scan, where I found out I might have twins!! As there are two sacks but it was too early to tell me 100% that it was ok even when it seemed okay, they saw the area of where the bleeding came from but couldn’t really tell me why it happened. they booked me in for another one tomorrow (11 days after the first one) to check the growth of the babies so hopefully 🤞 everything is okay

Best of luck with your scans! I hope everything is okay and if I was you I would keep both

I just wanted to say thank you everyone for commenting, sadly the private and nhs scan has confirmed no heartbeat, but thank you all for your advice x

@Beth O’Connor so sorry to hear this 💔 take care of yourself and wishing you lots of love xx

I had this 2 weeks ago, I was at the early pregnancy unit on Monday, they couldn’t see any reason for the bleeding, they gave me my official EDD and their contact information if I need to speak to them again for any reason. I have a private scan booked for Sunday. Depending on how far along you are, the NHS will do an internal ultrasound (under 9 weeks) where as private will usually be on your stomach Hope that helps x

@Beth O’Connor so sorry to hear this, I had only seen this after I posted my other comment.
