UK school system- someone please educate me November baby

Which November? My November 2020 boy is starting reception this September, we applied at the end of 2024 on our council website and got allocated our place in April. He’s already attending the nursery school there which we decided to do last September. Your child will start school the September after they turn 4
@Karen reception from age 4 means for a Nov 2023 baby it’s after they have turned 4 isn’t it? So sept 2028. When do we start applying for these? The infant school nearby starts taking children from 2/3 years old. It goes until year 2. Would I be doing my baby a disadvantage if I take him there considering if I have to move them to a different school for year 3? Or are these type of schools common?
@Steph wait how come they started in April? Are there multiple intakes?
If the infant school takes from 2-3yrs that means there is a nursery attached to the school, and normally the children that attend that nursery would then attend the school. I have a November 22 baby, and she’s not starting school until September 2028. So I won’t apply until the October 2027-January 2028, I will then find out in the April 2028 what school she has been accepted into (which should be the same school her brother goes to). It goes - Infant school - Reception (yr R) Yr 1 Yr 2 Junior school - Yr 3 Yr 4 Yr 5 Yr 6
No we got allocated our school in April, he will still be in nursery until the end of July and start reception in the new term in September 😊

You don’t have to send your kid to a school nursery which is usually the term after their third birthday. You have reception age 4/5 and then year1 age 5/6. Does the school have a primary attached as I went to one where it was infants and then juniors year 3-6 but a separate building whereas my daughter goes to one that’s reception to year 6. I’m sure I do know of one where you need to reapply in juniors but it’s not usual.
