I’ve had 3 iuds, it’s painful for a quick pinch. And then some light cramping. Nothing like childbirth. Take pain meds before your appointment it’ll help!
I've had two inserted and I have a low pain tolerance. Neither time was very painful and nowhere near as painful as birth. Take some anti-inflammatory pain relief beforehand and you'll be fine.
when I got mine in I was 18 and after inserting my gyno thought I passed out because I was completely silent, I barely felt anything!
My experience was that it didn’t hurt that bad kind of just felt like a period cramp (I didn’t even take pain killers after that they suggested), the bad side of my experience was the ovarian cysts I started having with the iud. Which is why I ended úl having it taken out and wont go back to it.
Mine was definitely not worse than childbirth! 😂 it was uncomfortable for like a minute, like having a PAP. Then a super long period after. Don’t let those people freak you out! You’re going to do great!
mine was a breeze, no pain during the process at all. it also has a lot to do with your menstrual cycle and how long ago you had your little one :)
I have had and iud for over 5-6 years and the only one that was painful was the one I got inserted after I had my baby which was at about 8-10 weeks postpartum and she said it was cus my uterus was still Sensitive but idk I feel like she struggled a bit and that could have been why I was so uncomfortable, but all my others was just a period cramp and then cramping for a little after not bad and I love the iud experience never had any issues had one come out of place one time
It is painful, but it’s a quick pain. It doesn’t last longer than five minutes I would say.
I would call Dr and tell them you’re scared and anxious, I got mine done at UVA and told them my concerns and they prescribed 1 oxy and 1 Valium to take after signing paperwork and I barely felt anything. Very quick I think those helped tremendously.
It is painful, but it’s very quick. I would suggest taking ibuprofen before hand. All my insertions were done before I had a child so it was even more painful than it would be after a vaginal birth.
@Sheree in my experience after birth insertion is way worse due to the uterus being extremely sensitive .
In my opinion, It’s not worse than birth, I’ve had three. The only reason this last one was kinda awful for me was because after giving birth mg uterus is now tilted, which means it took them like an hour to get it placed properly :,) but I’d still do it all over again and I will NEVER do birth and labor all over again if that says anything.
