Growth Scans

Hello! I’m 29 weeks and 4 days and being told my baby is measuring small so could potentially have to deliver him early, my last growth scan he was weighing 2lb 11 and the average at 29 weeks on google says 2.5-3lb so I don’t really see how he’s small??😂 I’m definitely not delivering him early just because he’s “small” unless he’s in danger. Has anyone else had this?? Or been told baby is small but then comes out an average size?

I think it means weighing ‘small’ compared to their growth chart is my understanding? I had this with one of my twins but turns out I had pre-eclampsia so I delivered at 35 weeks

I was told my LO would be small all, I had multiple growth scans where he was bottom 5th%, he ended up being 2 weeks late and jumping to the 95th%, they change so quickly xx

I had lots more growth scans and was advised to prepare to give birth anytime from 27 weeks. Ended up having to have a C-section at just over 39 weeks as he was breech, wouldn’t move around and he was 6lb 6oz at birth. I also measured 33 weeks the whole end of my pregnancy causing more scans due to the position he was in (sideways!), rather than due to how big he was.

I’m gonna be having regular growth scans as I have low Papp a and notch in uterine artery so he may be smaller, so could need to come early. It’s not about the weight it’s about the percentile anything under the 10th percentile is classed as growth restriction apparently

My niece was born via induction 2 weeks early in December because they were worried about her growth, and the placenta not functioning anymore. They said she would be born 5lb 4, and was born 2 days later 6lb 1. The measurements don’t seem to be that accurate but my brother and his gf were heavily pressed into an induction to get her out and help her grow better…fine balance between hearing the advice you’re given, and if you really don’t want to give birth early, you can refuse treatment..but I think it needs to be your own decision based on all the information you have. Everyone is different

The further you go with your pregnancy the more inaccurate the scan can be. There wasa recent study on it in the UK for big babies and inductions. And basically the amount of babies born big was far, far lower then what was said via the scans. So take it with a pinch of salt. As long as baby is happy and safe you have the last say. If you do not want to be induced that is your choice.

I had my little boy at 37 weeks due to them saying he was small, they made me feel like I had to have an induction so I agreed, the induction failed because my body wasn’t ready to go into labour so I ended up having an emergency c-section…I won’t be doing it again. They said he was estimating to be 5lb 2oz and he was born 5lb 14oz, perfectly healthy, if I’d have waited 2 more weeks he would’ve been close to 7lb. The growth scans can be off by quite a bit sometimes, my friend had her baby yesterday and was told he was estimated 6lb 4oz and he was 8lb 6oz! If not medically necessary I wouldn’t be induced for that reason again!xx

I had growth scans for my little one as I had gestational diabetes. She was measuring big on all the scans but one of the doctors we saw told us there is a 15% leeway either way and we were told she would be over 10lb when born at the 36 weeks scan, she was actually 9lb 5oz on delivery (planned c-section) x

i just got my growth scan on monday at 29+1 and they haven’t said anything about delivery early as i’m not going to deliver until they decide to pop out!! I was born small as the doctor told to my mum that i was “quite big” until saw i was really tiny so im assuming this baby will little bigger than they told us 🤣

I am nearly 30 weeks and my baby is small. I don’t know in regards to weight but my consultant goes off the growth scan and is on the 9th centile. I don’t go off google as it’s all different I go off what the measurement are on the grid and the small baby consultant advice. We have spoken about preparing to deliver early as small babies struggle more in labour. I’ll be taking any advice the consultant gives tbh x

Yes, told small baby all the way through my pregnancy needed regular growth scans- on my last scan they said oh the baby has gotten big! He was induced went 5 days over and he was 10lb1!!!
