Accidentally breaking the food rules

Ladies: if you eat break the “rules” on don’t eat sushi, lunch meat, undercooked meat, etc.. DONT panic!! Let me clarify this. The reason they want you to err on the side of caution is because if you were unlucky enough to get sick while pregnant, you’d be more at risk. Not that it’s a guaranteed risk. Bacteria doesn’t become more present or suddenly exist just because you are now pregnant. They just want to make sure you’re aware that if you were to catch anything.. it could be potentially more dangerous. Stay safe. Monitor yourself. You’ll be okay!!♥️

Sarah is on the nose. I’m not giving medical advice. I’m giving reassurance. If you’d like, I can list several links that will show you exactly what I’m saying. I’m not talking from my ass, either. Yes, these foods run higher risks of food Bourne illness/bacteria but these bacteria don’t exist just when you’re pregnant. Which means that you are at risk of catching these things whether you’re pregnant or not, it’s just a deadlier situation is you are pregnant. That’s not opinion. That is fact. Again, I can list many resources supporting this and the other side of things. Both sides are true and right!

Just have no idea why people need to find such negativity in a post that was only intended to provide assurance, I made these mistakes and felt sick with anxiety. Read up on it and just like you say I was at no higher risk to food poisoning just if I was unlucky enough for the bacteria to be present it could have caused food poisoning. Always best to air on side of caution but I think beating yourself up doesn’t help either, acknowledge it and move on ❤️

Exactly, you said it so well ♥️

You don’t have to explain it. Idk what the other woman was talking about.

I’ve seen her comment on other posts..she seems so mad all the time 😂🙄

She needs some sugar to diluate all the salt in her life

Honestly. At one stage all I could stomach was ham and cheese rolls. Everything else made my stomach turn. I was able to heat them up but only sometimes. Its good that there is this info out there so people are aware but sometimes it borders on fear mongering.

I totally agree! There are risks for everyone with these foods, pregnant or not. The stakes are higher for pregnant women because it could hurt you baby. Everyone should do the best they can to eat well, get lots of rest and minimize their risks. My mom likes to bring up that she had no idea about half of these rules when she was pregnant with me and I turned out fine 😅

My guilty pleasure is licorice. Apparently is messed with the baby’s cognitive abilities, I don’t eat it too often, maybe once a week, but I messed up and bought a bunch of bags from Trader Joe’s and now, I’m regretting it lol

😂😂 I have one bag left, I would give it away, but I’d rather stretch it out to through the rest of my pregnancy 💀

Omg this is so me 😂 I crave something one time, buy a bunch of it, then completely regret it. Glad to know I’m not the only one!

Is it okay to eat prawns?

Yes cooked seafood and shellfish is fine! You just can’t eat too much in one week (mercury content), some have less mercury than others. Salmon and shrimp are on the low end.

Thank you, I have it once it week x

Sushi has been my craving this entire time, I’m 27 weeks pregnant and have been doing all you can eat sushi at least twice a month. I eat 1-2 rolls with raw salmon and the rest are veg or shrimp. Baby is fine and I haven’t gotten sick yet. First trimester I lived off of deli meats, cause I couldn’t stand the smell of cooking meats and needed the salt hahah These days you’re more likely to get listeria from romaine lettuce then lunch meats. My current afternoon snack, is turkey slices, apples & Brie. 🤭🤷🏽‍♀️🤣 Everything that comes in supermarkets are so over processed you’d have to be looking to get sick to actually get sick ahahah

That’s right, it’s not like the fish is coming right out of the water and slapped on the table for us haha Freezing the fish kills bacteria like cooking it would! My husband is a helicopter dad when it comes to what I’m eating and he has no problem allowing me to eat sushi!!

With sushi I think most of the restaurants/ takeaway places actually have to freeze the fish and then defrost it to kill any potential harmful bacteria which apparently makes it safe for pregnant women (in the UK). I'm mega craving some sushi but am still terrified of trying.

I've never followed the rules because I understand the risk is mainly food poisoning for me, and I've never had food poisoning from sushi or lunch meat or aged cheese, or undercooked eggs.

With my first pregnancy, I stayed away from everything. I just can’t deprive myself of sushi like that again 😂 I always get the baked rolls or ones with cooked shrimp/crab. I feel like I’m living on the wild side right now haha but this was reassuring 💕

I eat whatever the hell I want 🤣

One thing tho, there is currently right now a deadly listeria outbreak due to lunch meat. So right now Is definitely not the time to break the lunch meat rule 💗 https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/outbreaks/delimeat-10-20/index.html

I agree you shouldn’t panic, but there are valid reasons to avoid lunch meat while pregnant. Yes, it’s true that there isn’t a higher chance of exposure because your’re pregnant - but what matters is your body’s reaction to the exposure. Healthy people rarely become ill from listeria, but it can be fatal to unborn babies, newborns, pregnant ladies and those w/compromised immune systems. There’s a lot of excellent research on this topic, the CDC has a great summary on the risks: https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/faq.html

Can you eat takeaways?? So like Chinese & Indians. This is my first pregnancy and I’m trying to be strict, coffee is my main thing! I used to have 2-4 cups a day now down to two.

What about coffee? I'm so tired with a toddler, I basically can't function without it. I feel guilty, but baby seems to be doing great.

I’ve been drinking coffee also de-caff! But doesn’t have the same effect

My OB said right off the bag that if you eat these things sparingly it’s completely fine. Now if you tend to want a deli meat sandwich every meal for days at a time then you should maybe worry. She said to buy the freshest kind and eat in moderation. She also said the same for coffee, if it’s part of my normal routine then don’t change. Again if I was drinking 3-4 espressos a day then maybe cut back. Also, she said the coffee will help You poop 😂 so no need to stop it!

I had some sushi but with smoked salmon and it’s been a craving saver
