Conscious Parenting

Imagine this: 6yo girl is taking a bath and invites you, the momma, to play barbie with her. EASY, let's do it. HOWEVER, she wants you to use this specific one, and get frustrated if you dont abide. 1) do you use this situation as an opportunity to teach her that she must respect peoples choices, 2) follow her lead, or 3) else?

For all of us who likes to overthink things... this happened to me today and i felt trapped! How would you deal with that, why, and any other thoughts you'd like to share?

Hi, I've joined this group to educate myself more but also to learn how to teach my daughter (8 weeks) from a young age about inclusivity and anti-racism. I'm half Arab (Egyptian) and when I lived in the middle East I was subjected to racism for being half English, then when we moved to the UK I was subjected to it for being half Arab. I've never felt like anywhere is my home so it hurts when I see others suffering, suffering much more than I could ever possibly imagine people would, in their own homes. I have recently started to become aware that shamefully and unconsciously I changed my appearance (bright hair colour), the way I speak and the way I behave to hide the fact I am half Arab because I was so tired of the racist abuse. I was even sometimes subject to racism from my own mother (British)! I hope we can raise the next generation to be thoughtful, beautiful, loving, supportive human beings who will always do the right thing and make black lives matter.
