Birth control

Hormonal changes & epilepsy meds. How to manage?

How is everyone managing the constant hormonal changes when taking their epilepsy meds? My period is always late and the pms symptoms are severe. I take three different tablets for my epilepsy and I can't cope with these symptoms.

I've discussed it with my consultant and he says I have to stay on this cocktail of meds so I don't have a seizure. It's getting me down atm cause i feel like I'm about to start breastfeeding again 🙈🙈

I wasn't on any epilepsy medication when I gave birth so these changes are relatively new, hence why I'm reaching out.

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

Solo mum with epilepsy

Hi everyone, I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 and I was controlled until very recently. Pregnancy meant my drugs didn’t work as well. I have now adjusted the levels with my neurology team but I’m still really nervous about seizures during the rest of my pregnancy and beyond. I am also a solo mum after ending a relationship of 4 years and that is also something I’m really nervous about. Amy advice would be so gorgeous! 💜

C-section

C section or natural birth?

Hi girls please share stories with me!

So I'm due to give birth August with my second baby and I'm just wondering ladies did you find having an elective c section worked better for you or giving birth naturally?

I have had epilepsy since a few months old and eventually grew out of it but when I gave birth to my little boy 4 years ago I started having similar symptoms again and had two seizures/syncope episodes and have now been re diagnosed with epilepsy and put back on lamotrigine.. I also have been told I have vasovagal syncope and possibly pots as I had random spikes in my heart rate postpartum when standing which have came back with my second pregnancy.

Ive been told I'm not allowed to have a water birth due to the epilepsy but I am really looking at asking for an elective c section?

Please share your stories with me as I've got severe health anxiety and can't stop worrying about it all

Pregnancy Week by Week: Second Trimester

Epilepsy changing

Has anyone had a random increase of seizures, or seizures that they’ve never had before. I’ve had epilepsy for 11 years now and it’s always been night time seizures - when I’m sleeping. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m having full tonic clonic seizures that cause me to lose consciousness.

Just wondering how everyone is getting on? Any coping strategies? Feeling rather lonely in a world where all mamas seem to be neurotypical.
