To defer or not defer…

In Northern Ireland, since 2022, you can defer your child for school if they are summer born, birthdates between April 1st to July 1st as they are considered young for their year.

My child can start nursery this year at 3 yr old, or can defer to 2027 when they are just over 4.

What would you do if your child is on the reserved side but smart. At home she is talkative, curious, potty trained, attempts to dress herself, can colour in the lines! Outside she is usually more of an observer and put off by loud and busy (toddler) environments. She takes time to warm up.

Activities for kids

Do you do a lot of playdates?

My LO goes to nursery and on the weekends we usually spend time with him by doing an activity, going out etc. We don't do a lot of playdates for him but recently I noticed that when he is in a group of children he tends to be quiet and stick more to us rather than playing or interacting with the other kids. I wonder if having less playdates has resulted in him being less social/ less confident? I must add that the nursery staff have said he's very chatty there

Potty training

Potty training

So my little boy has been doing really well with potty training with me at home and as soon as he goes to his dads he puts him in a nappy and goes 10 steps back. It’s really frustrating and I feel like it’s not fair on our son and it’s confusing him. He does this every time he’s at his dads and I don’t know what to do he doesn’t listen to me and does what he wants. Am I right in not wanting him to go to his dads?

Baby & toddler food

Eating….

Is anyone else really struggling with their LOs eating habits/preferences? For the last 3 weeks our LO hasn’t touched a single dinner & only the occasional lunch. She’ll only have breakfast because it’s usually sweet or served with fruits. We provide safe options with each meal but currently no food is β€œsafe”. We try to involve her in cooking & never force her to eat but it makes no difference. It’s gotten to the point where she asks what we’re having & decides before it’s ready that she won’t eat it. I’m literally sat by myself at the table having lunch nearly every day, she won’t even come sit down anymore. Help..??!?!?

Question about nursery funding pls help?!

Hi Mamas - can anyone help me with some advice please? My husband works part time (27hrs a week) and I’m currently looking for a job - I have an interview which I’m hoping (crossing everything) I’ll get so that we can qualify for nursery funding but I don’t know if I’ll have the job offer before the 31st March πŸ˜” does that mean we’re completely screwed for funding till September? Any other options? Any advice really appreciated - thank you x
