Okay so... in the beginning like right after labor and delivery.. what did you do to feed your baby?
I know I’ll have people at the hospital to help me with my pump and such, but I’m worried I won’t be able to pump enough! 😂😱

You can always do half formula and half breast milk especially if you plan on going back to work.

I’ve been exclusively pumping for 13 month now tbh some women’s body can take it and some can’t. I drink a lot of almond milk to keep
My supply up and eat a lot of calories if I don’t the I’ll have to punk for 2 hours just to get 9oz which normally it takes me 15-40min to pump that

They just put my baby on my boob 🤷🏻♀️ your baby really needs colostrum the first couple days, so if your boobs are already leaking clear liquid then I would say start trying to pump now.
If I can pry a little: why just pump if you plan on using breast milk? Why not breastfeed and pump?

My daughter came 5 weeks early. They set me up with a hospital grade pump immediately to start pumping. I was able to produce enough colostrum to feed her via syringe before she could latch into a bottle.
Pumping was really hard for me. Much harder than being pregnant or going through labor. The emotional impact of hooking up to a machine several times a day was something j was completely unprepared for. Make sure you have a strong support network! I wouldn't have made it without my husband's support and encouragement.

When I first gave birth they immediately put her on my breast. It was a but hard but managed it a bit then they brought the pump. They told me I was lucky my baby was really good at eating.

Colostrum

Well to be honest my son never took my breast wen I try to breast feed it was hard yes I did pump but only into he was almost 2 months after tht I had to stop cuz I was bleeding so they switch my bby to formula ☹❗💯 but he already soon. To be 8 months he a healthy bby 😊😊

I supplemented with formula until my milk came in, we've had no problems exclusively breastfeeding since. My baby was born really tiny and I'm glad I supplemented because he didn't lose weight like most babies do those first couple of weeks.

Gave birth to my son just 3 weeks ago. I started breastfeeding , was not enough, so they gave me the advice to pump after every breastfeeding for 15 minutes ( just to get more and more milk ) Then he got the pumped milk and 1 oz of formula . Now my breast produce up to 4 oz.
Truth is , you have to be strict with the pumping during the day . It’s time consuming but I’ll work out . Every woman is different though . So don’t be stressed about breastfeeding. If it’s not working out for you then you always can just give your darling formula . Had troubles with my first born son . He got just a month my breast milk then only formula! And he’s a healthy boy !

I was wondering about this too but seems like you just have to start pumping as soon as you can after birth. This is my third baby and I am 100% just exclusively pumping from day one. I tried nursing with my other two and we all hated it. They were both bad at latching and I didn’t enjoy it at all and ended up finding pumping so much easier and more convenient (yes, even with the bottle washing 🤷🏻♀️) so this time that’s my plan but I was wondering if I was going to be able to pump right away or if I was going to have to nurse or formula feed at the hospital but after reading the comments I think I’m just going to request a pump during labor so I don’t have to worry about it after birth.

My baby was born prematurely and my only option was to exclusively pump. My husband got me on a schedule straight away pumping every two hours until my supply was established. He programmed an alarm into both of our phones (his was a cow mooing, lol). Fifteen or twenty minutes of pumping should be fine.

Thanks everyone!! I think I’m just going to pump as soon as I can after labor and delivery and do the syringe thing assuming I’ll only have a tiny bit of colostrum, and go from there! 👌🏼😃

My daughter's pediatrician told me that you can mix the colostrum/breast milk and formula together if you still want the baby to get all the benefits. I got to where I was barely producing an ounce of breast milk and so I just pumped what I could and mixed it in with the formula.

When I was in the shower, while pregnant I expressed my breasts to see milk already coming out so you can just express your breasts in the shower to see if milk is already in your ducts.
But after I had my baby I did try to latch just to stimulate my breasts but ending up pumping and giving it to him just because he kept waking up like he wasn’t getting enough milk so I ended up pumping so he could get more milk and stay asleep longer lol

My baby is 11 days old. I want to breastfeed so bad...he’s a biter and won’t stop chomping on my nipples they are always bleeding and cracked and I literally scream in pain and dread breastfeeding...I’m starting to pump exclusively but fear I won’t be able to keep up with the demand

Hi everyone! My baby is about 6 weeks old and I have been exclusively breast feeding since week 2 after her birth because my nips got torn up by her sucking and it’s just over more convenient for me, but she does have a good latci was producing so much at first and was able to start freezing at least 2 bags a day of milk for storage. Recently I’ve noticed I haven’t been producing as much, so I’ve had to tap into my frozen supply. I’ve been trying to drink more water, wearing non constrictive bras, massaging my breasts - and started power pumping as of 2 days ago so we will see how that goes. I haven’t tried formula yet and I’m trying not to. I guess I’m just trying my best to not resort to formula even though I know it’s not bad at all for the baby I’m just being stubborn about it. I still have a good amount of milk frozen. does anyone have any suggestions like should I keep working on boosting my supply because I will bounce back, or should I start adding formula and save my supply?

If you are not planning to breastfeed you have to start right away with pumping.
I was hand expressing during the final weeks of pregnancy.
We started to supplement while my milk came in but now, he's a week old and I pump every 4 hours, he gets solely breast milk.
Colostrum is very thick and you don't need much, they're tummies are the size of an almond during the days they need it.
I was told not to start using an electric pump before birth because it can induce labor, and to hand express starting at 38 week.
