Hey! I started with getting little bits each week to put away (clothes, baby wash ect) so it didn’t feel as overwhelming. You could start buying some bigger items like the pram, baby’s first bed and some furniture at least you know you have them then x

Its super easy to go overboard. Im sure other people will say the same sorts of things. A newborn doesnt need much. Essentially somewhere to sleep, clothes, nappies and milk in which ever form. I bought so much stuff and used hardly any of it. Ask friends/family if they plan on getting you anything as they might want to get something you wont use for a while. My must haves with a newborn were a baby wrap, baby swing and a nappy caddy to hold everything i needed close and handy.

I agree with Charley. We got the pram and furniture first and started getting little bits. Always check fb marketplace for stuff. You'll be surprised how much money you can save :) make sure you buy a cot mattress new though.

If you're having a baby shower, have that before you start buying things! The one thing I did NOT get at the shower was bottles for 0-3months and diaper rash cream🤷🏻‍♀️

I started by making a list and just getting a few bits at a time. I’ve definitely gone overboard but it’s my first baby so I feel like I’m allowed 😆😆😆 xxx

People always buy you clothes but not vests so don't go too mad with clothes. I'm also weighed down with mountains of blankets! So don't buy too many of them, I think I was given more than 10! You will never have too many muslin cloths, you will always be looking for one. Silly little things like a bottle brush for if/when you use bottles.

I bought in advance and things kept popping up I’d forgotten😩 it’s never too early to prepare it goes so quick! My daughter was in newborn for 6 weeks too and only just gone into 3-6 at 4 months so the sizes deffo last xx

I wrote a list which really helped me for the nursery, then clothes, bottle items as I didn’t breastfeed, big items ie pram, high chair etc xx

Start a registry and put EVERYTHING you think you need on it. You'd be surprised how many people will buy you even the "larger" items sometimes!

Put the word out! I have gotten so much stuff from friends and relatives who recently had babies and are now done. Also I love to shop at secondhand stores and consignment stores.

Well that’s settled I start a list so I can see everything I’ll need! That should make me feel a lil more organised! Thanks mums

I made a list of stuff I needed before the baby arrived and things I would need after, and split them into ‘need’ and ‘nice to have’, then worked out what I would need new (basically car seat and mattress!) and everything else have been getting second hand. I am quite fussy so have found the Vinted is brilliant for clothes/ vests etc but if you aren’t too fussed what things look like then there are loads of people selling bundles of vests/ clothes on Facebook marketplace. We have got out cot etc second hand too from Facebook- once you have the list and know what you need, it’s easier to keep searching for what you need to see what’s coming up. Happy to share the list if you want?

Couple of basics:
1. You don’t need new stuff - and baby stuff gets grown out of so fast second hand is almost always in great condition.
2. The actual ‘essentials’ and what people tell you you ‘must have’ are two very different lists.

My suggestion would be have a look at the Scottish baby box contents. That’s been really well out tigether to cover the essentials. Not always enough quantities, but it’s got the core items. I can’t think of anything that’s not in it that’s actually essential. Car seat and pram are the only two that might be key. The wrap is about the only not essential item in it, but they’re mighty useful.

Pram wise - buy second hand. The carry cot bit will only last you a couple of months and they’re stupidly expensive. Once you’re out of carry cot size you can work out exactly what you want. It might be a travel system type pushchair, but it might be a much smaller lighter folding buggy.

I wouldn't buy too much. Everyone else usually gets you next to everything. (My mother, father and brother in law have bought a lot as well as my own siblings, mum and grandparents on both sides. So many cousins as well as uncles and aunties and friends. Heck, even both of our co-workers are offering us stuff or asking what we still need.) Also if you are planning a baby shower, you get a lot of gifts for baby that way. I wouldn't stress. My family and his both wanted to buy one big ticket item. (Could be crib, car seat, pram etc) I would focus on getting yourself care items as these are usually the things everyone including mum forgets about. So breast pads, body oil for your pregnancy journey, baby book (I have one that I write in throughout the 9 months of pregnancy and it's beautiful.. It asks questions such as "weirdest food cravings?" "Moods during each trimester" it also has pages dedicated to pictures of scans and gender guesses.) I would focus more on your journey

OfferUp! I’ve gotten a lot of new/ barely used stuff and saved a tone.

I googled essentials lists (Pinterest was very helpful) and then just made a note with tick boxes on my phone and went through it a brought everything in one go so it was out the way.
