Dry skin on newborn

So my two week old LG has dry skin all over her and it keeps flaking in places. Has anyone got any tips on how to get the dry skin better for her?

TIA

Don’t worry it just goes on it’s own, my baba is 4 weeks tomorrow and his has nearly all gone now, I was recommended by the midwives to just leave it alone and don’t put anything on it. Hope that helps xx

This is very normal and there’s nothing you need to do to fix it :)

Completely normal! It will go away, but I personally put baby oil on straight after a bath before I dried my baby

My son had this all over his body. I think it took maybe 5ish weeks for it to be completely gone. We just left it alone and it went away itself. We tried olive oil once but was just too messy for his clothes. Xx

It definitely does seem to improve on its own after a couple of weeks but I used some Aveeno Baby moisturiser for my little boy to make sure it didn’t get any worse :)

Thank you everyone ❤️ xxxxxx

I was literally just about to post exactly the same thing lol 😂. My little one is 3 weeks and still got it pretty much all over.
We have been using a tiny bit of child’s farm moisturising cream to try and help. But it hasn’t don’t much tbh. Xx

My little girl had the same thing, I found aveeno baby sensitive lovely for her skin. X

Completely normal I was advised by my midwife to use natural moisturisers to help things like olive oil, coconut oil their safe for new skin. My Little one loves having her belly rubbed with coconut oil

This is the skin adjusting to the out-of-utero conditions. The air is really dry compared to the wet sac they were in for almost 10 months. Think of it at short term evolution! Shes ok mama. I was a wreck due to ocd/ftm jitters and used burts bees moisturizer baby balm.

My LO had this early on and I just left it 😊 it soon went away xx

Yeah mine was born like this and it lasts about 2 weeks, I put Shea butter on her and did soapless oatmeal baths. Worked like a charm.

Nothing to worry about. It's something all newborns have people say to use lotion etc but it goes away completely on its own ...having a humidifier in the room they sleep in helps..I personally don't put anything on my son as I want to maintain his skin as natural and healthy as possible until he's about 3 months ..it went away within about 2 and a half weeks..

Find 50:50 ointment it is the best ever to put on baba! Especially with dry or sensitive skin. I put it on my baby every day

It’s normal and you don’t need to do anything for it. It will go away on its own.

That's eczema you need eucerin

Avatar

It’s definitely not eczema the midwife just said it’s normal for a newborn just wanting to know if anything helped it come off that’s all but thank you

My LO had this all over her body, my HV said it was normal. I used organic coconut oil to help soften them and add moisture to her skin

Avatar

I agree- Doesn’t look like eczema to me- Looks like just very dry skin- completely normal. My little boy had this when he was newborn and we used pure olive oil. It worked like a treat and went away really fast so I’d definitely recommend it! Xxx

This happened to mine also,i would put breastmilk in her bath and put cream after i used(douce mousse). But it will probably go away in a little bit

Avatar

I used coconut oil as was advised in the hospital itself

Avatar

My daughter had the same I used child’s farm coconut oil and that cleared it completely was advised by my midwife

My little boy’s skin was like this when he was born
The midwife told me not to use baby moisturiser just use olive oil and it worked amazing x

It will eventually clear up on its own, but when my little one had similar dry skin when she was teeny tiny my HV recommended organic coconut oil.
I wasn’t comfy treating it though as I knew it was normal & it did eventually clear up.

The doctor said it’s normal. All newborns shed their first layer of skin after birth. I use dove baby lotion, works well for us.

Avatar

My little boy had this , I just used dove baby and it goes , he's 4 months now and loves it still

Avatar

That's normal I believe

Avatar

It will eventually go away on its own. My LO had this when he was a nb I thought lotion was going to help but it didn't it just eventually went away on its own

My son had this all over his forehead for like 2 weeks and it started to look sore all the moisturisers I was putting on it…. I decided to cake Vaseline on him (thick!) to sooth it. Left it on from 3pm to 1am and went to wipe it off with a water wipe, the Vaseline had soaked completely into the flakes and literally (not even joking) one wipe with the water wipe and the whole thing came off and the skin was perfect underneath, not raw or anything. That was days ago now and his skin is perfect no flakes! I’m a new time mum and learning as I go along, it worked for me, I’d defo give it a go 🙈 xx
