Hi all,
Over Christmas dinner today I was telling my family I was thinking of calling my daughter Aurelia. I have fallen in love with the name.
However, without being rude some of my family repeated the name back (including my five year old niece) and it sounded like they were really struggling to pronounce it.
Can anyone write out how you would pronounce this and where you are from? We’re Scottish.
I don’t mind my daughter having a name that’s occasionally mispronounced but they struggled to say it even after I slowly said it out several times and don’t want my daughter to have an incredibly difficult life with her name!

I Can definitely see a child struggling with name but I think that will get better with time! I think this name is so pretty (uh-REH-le-A)

Or-ay-lee-ah, like aura and Delia combined. It's a name I feel I've heard before so don't find too unusual if I'm getting it right. I'm English and live in Scotland too. I think any name with an R in is quite different in a Scottish accent. I have Perry on my list and my partner pronounces it Pedie to me 😂
Perry was one of my favourite names for a boy! We’re Glasgweigan and I think you’re right they put a lot of emphasis on Rs so maybe that’s why. I think I’m with you guys on the pronounciation I’m just not sure why others struggle so much and now I’m really paranoid. The Portuguese girl in Love Actually is called Aurelia but that’s pronounced a tad different to how I would pronounce it

It was Love Actually I thought of with this name 😅 I think it's super pretty! I'd pronounce it or-ray-lee-ya

Ow-ray-leeya

That's how I'd say it too

This is romanian name , we pronounce Aurelia

I love this name too
I pronounce it as
Or-ree-lee-a

English - Or ray lee ya

I love this name but have the same problem with Aussie pronounciation it sounds like Uh Rail Yah.

Or-ray-lee-ah
Like from love actual ❤️

O-ray-lee-a
I'm from down south originally near London but now live near Manchester

oh yeh there'd be plenty who pronounce it nicely but the really "ocker" way just was too much for me

It’s my step mums name and she’s Filipino, we pronounce is Or-ee-lee-ah

Our-ay-lee-uh. I’m American 🤷🏼♀️

I’d pronounce it the same as Love Actually, Or-ay-lee-ya. I’m from near London but live in Edinburgh

Ah-rail-ee-ah

Or-ree-lee-ah x

Ou-reh-lya

Dundonian here! Id have pronounced it au(lower case o sound)-ray-lay-ah
