Shingles cases at work

Hi! I’m a teacher and had an email last night saying our school has had a positive case of shingles and for pregnant women or those with a weakened immune system to be aware. Im only 5 weeks pregnant after an early miscarriage last year, and I also have a weakened immune system due to Chrons. Do I go in? Don’t want to be having time off for no reason but also super worried at the minute for obvious reasons!

I'm a teacher too and we have chicken pox in school. I contacted my midwife and she advised if you have already had chicken pox before there is no harm to baby 😊 I'm sure shingles stem from the same virus as chicken pox. Best to phone the maternity unit to check but I think along as you've had chicken pox before you will be okay x

Thanks all! Work rang to tell me the case is someone I likely wouldn’t have had any contact with but midwifes have suggested I round off the week at home and go back in on Monday just in case. The panic during this early stage of pregnancy is driving me mad!x

You cannot catch shingles but can catch chicken pox if you’ve never had it before. So if you have had chicken pox all is fine :)
