When to use desitin and how often?

My baby girl has started to develop redness/irritation on her bottom and I’m wondering when to start using diaper rash cream and how exactly to use it?

So this was happening to my daughter too and so at her 1 week appointment I asked our pediatrician what to do. She said to use Desitin like “icing on a cake” when we change her. She said it’s a barrier and you want a thick layer so that the rash can heal underneath and you can just wipe away a thin layer each time you change the diaper. She also said to completely clean the bottom 1-2 times a day by rinsing her booty under the sink and getting it nice and clean, and then reapply the desitin again.
Basically keep the cake iced, fully clean it once or twice a day and the rash will clear quickly.
My daughters was gone in 2 days.

Thank you. I had the same issue as OP.

whats the difference? I received desitin from a baby shower gift but I might switch!

nice! Well I guess I’ll see if desitin works and go from there. Thanks!

Our pediatrician told us to try aquaphor first before going to diaper creams. We also try to dry him before closing up diaper (blowing on his booty) and occasionally give an “air bath” (wrap in a towel for some time with no diaper)

I’ll try these tips 🙏

i’ve been using aquaphor. the pediatrician recommended me to try that instead of destin. so if the destin doesn’t work for your little one like it didn’t for mine. definitely try some aquaphor. every time i change her which is every 2 hours i wipe her real good and then apply a decent layer on her bum and i’ve noticed it going away very quickly. also like someone else said rinse the bum under some water to really clean it just a couple times a day. i do morning and night. it really does make a difference

thanks! I feel like the desitin might be working? It’s only red around her crack now and not on her cheeks. I gave her a bath today and rinsed it all off, let her dry out and then reapplied the desitin. Hopefully it’ll go away in the next couple of days, otherwise I’ll definitely be switching to aquaphor.
