NHS band 6 Mat leave pay

Hey So i’m middle of the Band 6 pay scale. I’m stressing out trying to figure out what my mat leave pay will be spread out over 12 months equally. And what months do you receive less? my colleague said she received £250 on her first month 🫠. I’m due to go on annual leave on the 2nd of June (due 17th of June) and hoping to have 8 weeks of annual leave to use as well but not considering spreading my mat leave over 10 months instead of the 12 months. Is anyone who works for the NHS in a similar situation who has worked it out yet?

I’m NHS too but band 5. Worked in NHS for 4.5 years now & I’ve been told that I can only spread my pay across 9 months, not across the 3 months at the end where I don’t get paid ☹️

I currently work in the NHS. I have just moved to the top of band 6 (not sure if that means it will be calculated at middle of band 6 or the top). I've been advised you can ask for a breakdown of 9 months pay and 12 months pay. You can spread your maternity pay and SMP entitlement across 9/12 months. I'm not sure of all the calculations but I know the last three months you come out with a lot less. Your HR department should be able to give you an accurate breakdown. I think they calculate it when you reach 25 weeks. I think the first month also depends on when the child is born as to when your maternity starts, although if you are on annual leave you should have two weeks of paid leave prior to your maternity pay starting. Hope this helps. x

@Abbie have you had your breakdown yet? I'm still waiting on mine our trust is rubbish and has left it for others until literally the week before I'm curious what I could get on top band 6 for the 9 or 12 months if you've got a rough idea and wouldn't mind sharing please xx

OK great thank you @Abbie it's given me a bit of an idea all not sure what to do still though. I'm planning on going on leave 2 weeks before my due date but I guess we'll see how I cope later on xx

I haven’t had mine worked out yet but keen to know too. I know you can spread it equally over the whole period though so you don’t have some high months and some low. Believe it’s 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay and then 13 weeks statutory pay and 13 weeks no pay if you take the full. However like you, I’m using my annual leave for 6-8 weeks.

@Claire you will automatically go up and payroll will take care of that. I ended up being induced at 37 weeks and got my breakdown when my baby was nearly 2 weeks old. I'm top band 6 full time with no enhancements I got around £1100 this month which is one of my worst.
