23 weeks, offered a job— materinity leave? Advice needed!

I’m 23+4 weeks pregnant. Last year, I applied for a job in the career field I have been wanting to break into my whole life. The department has been so excited to hire me and a huge advocate, but I didn’t expect the application process to be this long! At this point, I would not be eligible for maternity leave (US) as I need to be there for 180 days for Oregon leave and 12 months for federal. I’m so excited about this position and the people I’d be working with but is it worth giving up paid maternity leave at my current position? Are there any other options for maternity leave or resources in the US/Oregon?

This one is a tough-y. I actually paused pursuing moving to another department or organization when I found out I was pregnant because of the same reason. I have turned down job requests (by no mean an actual offer) because I want my 3 months. However, think about how much vacation days can you accumulate until your birth? Sick days? Can your family afford 1 month of no pay for you? Can you work from home for a month? If this all you have wanted professionally, I think it may be worth pursuing it.

Look into short-term disability state law.

If it is within your same company, but another department, wouldn't your tenure with the company still apply? Ask HR

Is the 180 days the company policy or state? If it’s company, it might be worth it to ask if they would wave it.

Can you negotiate mat leave as part of your sign on? Are they willing to hold your position open until you've had mat leave etc. Explore those options first. Ultimately only you understand your financial situation - if this career will set you up for life etc etc I'd struggle to have no paid time off but if it was worth it in the long run I'd make it work
