Baking question!

Hi. I've not been on here in ages, but feel I might benefit from some American advice (I'm British). More pics in comments. Chocolate brownies! I cannot get them right, not that I've tried that many times 😂. We'd like slightly crispy crust, chewy or gooey in centre. Mine are always like Chocolate cake. What am I doing wrong? I've tried making from scratch, packet mixes, cooking less...

@Michele ah I see. I've used drinking chocolate, raw Cacao and choc chips before. I rarely have chocolate in, but I do have some cheap stuff for making rice Krispy cakes with kids. I might have to try with decent chocolate. A recipe would be great, thanks! My old range oven isn't brilliant either

@Michele thank you! I've not seen unsweetened baking chocolate tbh. I'll look for it, otherwise I guess dark chocolate with very high cocoa content is next best option. Yeah I do tend to melt chocolate like that as it's so easy to overheat it in microwave. Is it self raising or plain flour? Are they very sweet, as it's a lot of sugar? I'll definitely try this all next time. Thank you 😊

@Michele thank you! Ha ha, sounds like a fun course. I'll probably inundate you with questions now 😂

@Hannah I would suggest you go online and get the recipe for Ina Garten The barefoot Contessa brownies - while they might seem involved they are divine and never fail to turn out a wonderful brownie.

@Gerrie oh I've seen her on the food network. I'll look it up, thanks

Plus it makes a large portion and you can freeze them for another time when you need a chocolate pick me up!!

@Gerrie good idea, if they last long enough! (5 kids)

@Hannah 🤣🤣🤣ok, maybe the big batch will be just perfect for you!😋

@Violet my bff gave me a recipe for black bean brownies. She says they were good, my hubby said he wouldn’t even try them and wanted my usual ones 🙄😔
