I'm rhesus negative and dog just leapt onto my belly.

He is about 6kgs in weight and decided to leap onto my belly. Should I get check out given that I am rhesus negative.

I think if it was full weight on and impact I probably would for peace of mind x

I would certainly call and let them know what happened and they will let you know if they need to check you over x

My dog is 30kg and jumps on me! If you have any cramps or bleeding I would get checked out but they’re well protected in there.

I would be getting an anti D just to be safe x

I called triage and they told me to come in as they want to give me anti-d

Good job you called @Ana x

You will get your anti D at your midwife clinic at 28 weeks and after giving birth.

@Ayana Aana yes but any time there is a trauma to the stomach like a sharp knock or a dog leaping onto your belly with his whole weight you are meant to call in.

@Ana never been told that. I have been fine throughout my first pregnancy haven't had any traumas and I dont have dogs. So if you been told to do that that's great at least you nknow the solution

They should have told you that if you are a negative blood type then you must go in for an anti d injection within 72 hours of any trauma. This is due to possible internal bleeding that if the baby is a different blood type to you can cause issues. Hope that helps @Ayana Aana

@Emma well obviously I would have gone if I had trauma, but I havent been having any so I didnt require urgent care similar to this. But I dont think that dog would have caused internal bleeding that's why she should have gone to a n e to check it out straight away if in any doubt. This would be the last place I would use if I suspected something wrong happening to me during pregnancy. Seeking medical attention has to be immediate not asking for advice online especially with negative rhesus.

@Ayana Aana so if you dropped a 5kg kettle bell on your stomach would you have sought help? Or if someone threw a 5kg kettle bell at your bump. Because my dog leapt with his full 6kg plus weight onto one point of my belly where my baby was kicking at the time. I asked on here whilst waiting for a message back from my local maternity service. Which was then closed so I called maternity triage... I wouldn't go to A&E for anything pregnancy related as it isn't equipped. Thanks for your input. Glad nothing happened to you with your pregnancy.

@Ana you have just answered your question!! I have 15kg toddler who jumps on me daily so I do know what it's like but I wouldn't consider having any issues with it. I suppose it has to be felt at the time. That's why I said checking out it immediately is important not seeking help online because that can delay treatment and on top of that every case is unique because each pregnancy is different!! I have had a lot of other complications and difficulties believe me, its not the case where if I didnt have dog jumping on me that means I was fine all along. We women go through a lot of things. Just look after yourself all the luck.

Its really interest because i was told that regardless the mixing of blood or risk of it anyway isnt a issue until 20-something weeks (cant remember now), im also o- so asked at my last midwife appt which was 20 weeks and she said I will start the injections at my next midwife appt… She didnt say i may need it any earlier in any instance until that time comes 🤔 now im wondering!

How come you need to go in for anti D if something like this happens? I’m rhesus negative and baby is positive, but I’d never think to go for an anti D so I’m curious incase sometime like this was to happen

It’s because if your blood and the baby’s blood mix together your body can reject the baby as a foreign object @Katie as your blood cells will fight anything that enters your body with different blood cells. That’s my understanding any way x

@Emma ahh yeah I was told about that, but didn’t think having weight on you would cause bloods to mix, it’s my first pregnancy and midwife’s not mentioned anything regarding stuff like this so good to keep an eye out for Info! Thankyou xx

It’s more if there is a trauma, in this case a dog has jumped up and hit the bump. This can cause a small internal bleed. Possible it hasn’t but they just give the anti d incase it is to be on the safe side. Basically if you think that the impact could be enough then just check see if they want to inject you. I actually never got told this in my first pregnancy either which to me is crazy. But got told it this time around. You’re welcome @Katie xx

@Emma Thankyou! If something like this happened I’d have never have thought to go unless it was obvious some damage had been done. Shame they don’t tell you these things if it happens regularly! Xx

Yeah it is a little odd isn’t it they don’t tell you. This also applies if u have any kind of external bleed too, as in bleeding from down there, then you need the injection then too xx
