I had an induction there 18 months ago. Absolutely shocking experience. Lack of equipment (requested cervix balloon for induction then after long search they couldn't find any), my birth plan was completely disregarded, they did a sweep on me without my consent, failed to spot I was in active labour so I almost gave birth in the corridor, rude midwife whilst pushing. Complete lack of compassion. Wouldn't let me be on all fours. Then disrupted golden hour by turning strip lights on straight after birth so "she could see her paperwork". Then terrible experience on the ward, one nurse who shoved formula down my baby in the middle of the night which completely conflicted with the day staff who refused to get formula for me (I'd accidentally brought powder not ready made). Completely traumatised to be honest. Avoid at all costs. The only positive was the midwife I had for pregnancy appointments, who was lovely.
I had both my sons there as its the closest hospital from my house. First time my midwife was absolutely rubbish although all delivery and aftercare went well. My second son was born last June and he was 35 weeks. I thought that I was looked after very well no complaints and very nice midwifes. Overall if possible and would have a choice wouldn't go for this hospital however it depends really on the situation people and yourself.
@Adelle thank you for sharing the link. Do you mind letting me know which hospital you chose ? I am inbetween Northwick Park and Hillingdon hospital. I opted Northwick Park as I had my first baby there. But it was 7 years ago. Now I am very confused and anxious after reading the review on both the hospitals.
@Adelle thanks for sharing your choices. Much appreciated.
This is my closest hospital. I didn’t even consider going there. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories. Used the A&E once. Blooming horrendous. So I used St Mary’s in Paddington to have my baby. Brilliant. If I have another child I’ll choose either Queen Charlottes or St Mary’s again. I’d rather travel than use NWP for anything.
I moved to Harrow in December and I was followed at UCLH in Euston for all my pregnancy so it made sense giving birth there. I chose a planned C section and I went to give birth by tube on the date they scheduled. After the delivery I was discharged to Northwick Park hospital, which is only 5 minutes from my place, and so far all the midwives I met (around 5) have been really lovely and gave me lots of advice. Every experience is personal, I didn’t have a great experience in delivering at UCLH for example as my anaesthetist missed my vein when placing the fluid bag and she realised it only after she did the epidural and spinal and I lost lots of blood and nearly lost consciousness before she found another vein. The delivery lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes instead of 50 minutes. Be positive and try to relax, easiest said than done but the best approach x
I gave birth at St Mary’s but my aftercare was with Northwick Park and I was NOT happy with them. I found Northwick Park to be quite condescending, rude, and didn’t follow through on setting up appointments they told me they were going to for my daughter. I chose St Mary’s because I had seen Northwick Park’s cqc report and heard from other mums the terrible experience they had there, one mum even blamed them for the death of her baby. I’m so glad I didn’t give birth there
I had my miscarriages at Northwick Park and when I got pregnant with this one I referred myself to Queen Charlotte Hammersmith. Northwick is close to me but I don't trust them there at all. I also looked at really bad reviews, and my experience in the emergency and early pregnancy scan wasn't good at all. The way I was spoken to was horrible, as I was loosing my babies. And I am not one to take it quietly when I've been disrespected so I gave them a piece of my mind. I also met some lovely nurses, not all rabbish but for their own sake it is better that I'm with another maternity. Again, I don't take crap from anybody! I shout at people on the street for pushing me so, I won't hesitate to put them in their place at the maternity.
I had a water birth there in April 2022 and had a really good experience. The midwife was amazing and it couldn’t have gone any better. My midwife from appointments was the ward manager that day & even came in to check on us. So many friendly staff that shift! The staff the following day on the early morning shift weren’t as nice, a couple were rude/clearly didn’t want to be there - but I’d still recommend based on the birth/delivery. The follow up appointments/breastfeeding specialists were great also & super hands on and helpful x
I had my baby girl via c section at NHP on 02.03.23 the nurse who took us into theatre and got us ready was wonderful. However, some of the nurses are unbelievably rude and have no compassion. After having my baby I was on the ward, the nurses were so abrupt and arrogant. I didn't understand how these people worked with such attitude in such a sensitive department out of the whole hospital ground. Then I caught sepsis, and had stay longer and it was just a horrible place to be in while being that unwell. Sorry if I have put u off in a negative way but just had to honestly speak out . I hope you have a better experience than mine, you and your baby deserve that much.
