NJ FLI is available but your employer may have additional benefits that can give you more time off on top of whatever New Jersey FLI gives you. I would put in a request to your HR department in writing for more information. If anything were to negatively happen to you at work you could always make a case for discrimination.

Your employer might not even be required to participate in NJFLI, check your pay stubs to see if you have a deduction for it. You also have to be paying into the program for one year before youre eligible for benefits. You can do all of your paper work through the NJFLI website, and they have plenty of information there about the program. The only reason I needed to reach out was because I was having a twin birth and needed to confirm that I got eight weeks versus four before my due date for disability. Generally, you get the 4 weeks before your due date per expected baby, either 6 or 8 weeks after for recovery depending on how you birth, and then 12 weeks within the first year to bond. I was required to pay into my insurance and other benefits to maintain them. My experience was my company and gyno was not knowledgeable on New Jersey benefits and I was my own best advocate.
